Feng Shui – A Panacea for the Stress of Modern Living?

This is one question that is begging for an answer amongst the enthusiast of this ancient Chinese Art of Geomancy. Feng Shui is a living skill practiced by the Chinese over the ages, as far back as 3000 years ago. It is observed that the living environment is abound with life giving energy known as Qi which is dispersed by the wind and gathers at the boundary of water.

How can Feng Shui help us live a stress free life? In today’s borderless world of instant communication, our mobile phone is our constant companion, day in and day out – so is STRESS! We strive to manage our time and our attitudes during the working hours and hope to end the day productively. The whole process repeats itself the next day and the next day and the next day…

Is there an energy we can tap into for daily rejuvenation? How wonderful if we can start each day fully charged and energized, both physically and mentally, in facing the tasks ahead? What is it that helps some people to look, feel and stay motivated all day long?

The secrets lie in energizing your living space by orientating your sitting and sleeping positions, both at home and at work, based on Feng Shui’s compass directions. If apply correctly, Feng Shui can gives you vitality, mental clarity and tranquility in your daily life.

In one of the many studies and applications of Feng Shui, all of us have our auspicious and inauspicious compass directions based on a formula which takes into consideration our date of birth and gender. The formula computes a number that determines each person “Personal Kua” and is derived from the numerical 1,2,3,4,6,7,8,9. The number 5 is not considered as a Kua number. The Kua number will determine our auspicious and inauspicious compass directions. Each of us has four auspicious and four inauspicious directions. This system of Feng Shui is known as “Eight Mansions” which is a study of energy distribution within a house that is demarcated into 8 sectors.

To know how the computation of the Kua number is derived, please visit >www.proactive-qi.com/PersonalKua.html

Based on the Eight Mansion, if you have a Kua number 3 for example, your auspicious directions are South, North, Southeast and East. Correspondingly, South is known as “Sheng Qi”, North is “Tian Yi”, Southeast is “Yan Nian” and East is “Fu Wei”. What it means is, South is for Wealth & Prosperity, North for Health & Mentor, Southeast for Relationship & Harmony and East for Tranquility & Stability.

So how do we go about applying this system of Feng Shui to energize and revitalize ourselves?

If you want success and prosperity, you need to tap into the energy of the south by aligning your sitting position facing this direction. If you are not making any headway in your career and are looking for career advancement or business improvement, you can tap into this direction by having your table positioned in such a way that you now ‘face’ this direction while you work. If possible, your room door should also face (from inside looking out) this direction as this is actually tapping into your Sheng Qi direction. You should also sleep with your bed (headboard) situated to face this direction and your feet pointing in the opposite direction i.e. north.

If you want health and mentor luck, you have to tap into the energy of the north by aligning your sitting position facing this direction when you work. If you are feeling stressed out and looking to improve your health in general or to recover from a particular illness, you can tap into this direction the same way as mentioned above. The energy in this direction also brings good mentor luck or helpful people into your life. You should also sleep with your bed (headboard) situated to face this direction and your feet pointing in the opposite direction i.e. south.

If you cook at home, you should also orientate your stove or oven to face your Tian Yi or north direction for additional benefit in tapping the heath energy in this direction.

If you want relationship luck, you can tap into the energy of the southeast by aligning your sitting position facing this direction when you work. If you are having problems working with people and are looking to mend your relationship with them or building goodwill with people generally, you should tap into this direction the same way as mentioned above. This Qi helps foster better ties and build rapport with people be it loved ones, family, friends or colleagues. You should also sleep with your bed (headboard) situated to face this direction and your feet pointing in the opposite direction i.e. northwest.

A room door (inside looking outwards) that taps into this direction also helps to usher in relationship luck for you. Likewise, if the main entrance door of your house taps into this direction, you will also receive this positive energy into your home.

If you want peace and tranquility in your life, you should tap into the energy of the east by aligning your sitting position facing this direction when you work. This Qi helps you to relax, regain your composure and provides mental alertness.
It is sedative and gives a sense of serenity in your living space.
You should also sleep with your bed (headboard) situated to face this direction and your feet pointing in the opposite direction i.e. west.

Conclusion

Well, a panacea it is not, but Feng Shui can be an enabling factor in making your life less stressful, more productive and better organized for success if you take the proactive steps to welcome Qi into your life.
