Nail Biting-Let Hypnotherapy Lend a Hand for Stopping

If you have ever endeavored to give up your nail biting habit, you understand just how trying it can be. Perhaps you have put on bandages or gloves over your fingertips, or tried flavored nail polish. Perhaps they worked temporarily, but ultimately you found yourself with ragged nails and bleeding cuticles again.

The reason that a topical nail biting cure is not likely to get results makes sense when the reason behind the behavior is understood. The nail biting habit is inveterate and related in nature to other stress-related mannerisms, such as skin picking and hair pulling. Fundamentally, these behaviors fill an innate impulse; thus if the urge is not eliminated or satiated, the behavior will resume. No amount of bitter nail polish will curb the need for nail biting or provide the sense of relaxation you have after chewing on your nails.

In that vein, you cannot really cure nail biting, but do not fret: Thankfully, time-tested remedies that can support recovery are available. There is a three-step course of action that can efficiently stop nail biting if you are motivated to do so. The elemental step entails hypnosis.

For the uninitiated, hypnosis conjures images of people watching swinging pendulums or barking on stage for the entertainment of others. Rest assured that at its base, hypnosis is merely profound relaxation in a trance-like state. A lot of people incorrectly believe that hypnotic trances are like sleep, but you are awake and fully conscious, simply exceedingly relaxed and open to suggestion.

In fact, most of us are subject to some type of self-hypnosis daily, during periods when we tune out the majority of the disruptions around us to focus on special task while remaining fully conscious. It takes place effortlessly while we daydream, watch television or read.

Because nail biting is related to stress, the more successfully you can work through and release anxiety and tension, the more successful your commitment to stop nail biting will be. The main objective of hypnotherapy is to give you a way to preserve a state of relaxation at all times.

You are encouraged to investigate many different hypnosis techniques, such as traditional hypnosis, Ericksonian hypnosis and Neuro-Linguistic Programming techniques, to add to both the relaxed state and to realize a more complete sense of well-being. A competent hypnotherapist can tell which option is ultimately best for you.

The following step to curbing a nail biting tendency is to become conscious of the habit since nail biting is performed unconsciously. Hypnotherapy is very helpful for this stage, as connecting with the unconscious mind to generate the conscious mind's knowledge that you are about to bite your nails can help significantly. This allows you to make the judgment to bite your nails or not. And because hypnotherapy has previously worked to improve the underlying stress, the significant compulsion to bite your nails has been greatly diminished, or even eradicated.

The conclusive step for using hypnotherapy to discontinue biting nails is to totally remove the original desire to chew or bite. There are methods that can effectively program you with an urge to eliminate biting your nails, because just as practices can be curbed with hypnotherapy CD's, they can also be established.

Hypnosis CD's are effective with ending behaviors such as biting your nails because, even though the hypnosis will not miraculously generate complete self-control, it can fortify your tenacity and guarantee that decisions you decide during a stress-free state will still carry over when you are under stress. Additionally, hypnotherapy can help you commune with your unconscious mind to get it to parallel your conscious mind so both units work toward your aspiration.

It is important to note that some likely hypnosis clients hold a worry of having ideas planted or of experiencing "hidden" memories during a trance. Rest assured that hypnotherapists are officially trained and accredited and hold to the strictest professional and ethical rules. The processes used by professionals to make positive suggestions to your unconscious are entirely different than the ones used for memory recall or age regression. So the use of hypnotherapy for effectively ending the wish to bite your nails will not lead to unintended memories or behaviors.

CONCLUSION: Fingernail biting is a drive like any other, and using self-control by itself is usually not enough to refrain from the behavior. Using hypnotherapy or hypnosis CDs and all other resources available will more likely lead to a comfortable, successful end to your nail biting.
