There are many different ways in which you can get the stress relief you need. The ideal situation would be to remove all the stress from your life, but as everyone knows this is not possible. It is impossible to go through life without encountering varying degrees of stress related to your family, your home, your everyday encounters and your occupation.

Some of these stresses are short lived and you know that there is an end in sight, but this does not prevent you from feeling stressed while you are in the situation. It is essential to seek methods of relieving the stress to keep you from becoming ill.

The most common way of relieving stress is to relax. This really helps in stress relief because when you relax your body, you help relieve the tense feelings that have built up in your muscles. Using relaxation techniques, such as meditation, Yoga, self-hypnosis, will help to slow down your heart rate and breathing and bring down the level of your blood pressure.

Something as simple as going for a walk or listening to relaxing music will provide you with stress relief. There is nothing as relaxing as taking a walk along a quiet nature trail. If you have such a trail that you can take to work each day, it will give you more energy to tackle the day of work ahead of you.

A water fountain, whether it is indoors or out, is also a soothing feature because of the relaxing nature of the sound of falling water. A small fountain can sit on a table in any room or your home and there are beautiful wall water fountains that will bring you a true sense of peace and contentment.

You may not realize it, but lemons and other citrus fruits have the ability to help you gain relief from your feelings of stress. Experts will tell you that you should try to reduce the amount of caffeine you consume because this actually contributes to stress.

When you want to sit back with a refreshing drink, try a mixture of lemon and water. Sit back with a glass of iced water containing slices of lemon. It will cool you down on a hot day and help you feel energized. Oranges are also powerhouses of energy and will give you the lift that you need to keep going.

Take a bath with scented oils so that you can soak your muscles in the hot water and benefit from the scents of essential oils. Scented candles are also ways in which you can enjoy the benefits of these aromatherapeutic stress relief techniques.

Learning how to control your breathing is one way of getting the stress relief you need as well. When you find that you are starting to feel overwhelmed, stop and take a few deep breaths to help your breathing and heart rate slow down. This is very beneficial for your body and will calm down the fight or flight reaction that you have to certain situations.

For many people, reading is a preferred stress reducer and for others gardening gives them the relief that they need. Keeping a journal of your thoughts and your reactions to the events in your life can help you gain a greater understanding of how different situations affect you. This activity can also help you recognize the symptoms of stress so that you can work on ways of reducing them in your life.
