Stress can cause a whole host of problems in your life from depression to other medical conditions for which you may actually need to have surgery. It is important to recognize the symptoms of stress, which are different for many people.

Once you know how your body responds to stressful thoughts and events, then you are in a better position to manage the stress effectively so that you can reduce its effect on your body. It is helpful to have a repertoire of stress management tips that you can use in any situation to help you feel better.

When you are stressed your body is not in a relaxed state. This heightened arousal causes your blood pressure and heart rate to increase and this has an effect on almost every organ in your body.

Stress comes from external events in our lives, some of which we have no control over. Although most people equate stress with negative occurrences, it can also result from happy occasions as well.

The first step in developing stress management tips is to recognize what brings on your feelings of stress. If you are a student, it could be the thought of an upcoming exam or having to give a speech in class. Stress at work is very common and ranges in degrees of intensity.

Stress and health are closely related and can cause disorders of the mind and the body. Quite often doctors treat the symptoms rather than the cause which does nothing to alleviate how you are feeling.

Deep breathing is one of the stress management tips that work well in virtually every stressful situation. Taking deep breaths causes you to stop and take a break from what you are doing. Stand up and stretch your muscles and then breathe in through your nose as deeply as you can. Hold this breath and then let it out slowly through your mouth.

Repeat this several times to help your body calm down. It will help bring down both your blood pressure and heart rate so that you can start to think calmly again. If you make this a practice it will keep up from becoming angry when you don\'t really need to and will give you a chance to think before you speak rashly.

Taking a short walk is one stress management tips that always seems to work as well. Exercising, especially in the fresh air, helps to cleanse your body of the built up toxins that can cause stress in your body.

Don\'t put the pleasant aspects of life on the backburner so you can concentrate on your stresses. Stopping once in a while to enjoy life with your family and friends is a way to reduce stress.

Then there are stress relief games you can play that will work as stress management tips. Browse one of the many sites online that sell stress relief gifts to see how inexpensive these items are and read the description to see how they can help you in managing stress in your life.

One of the things that often causes stress at work is not being able to delegate tasks to others because you feel that you are expected to take them on yourself. This leads to burnout even if you thoroughly enjoy your job.

Learning to say "No" is very difficult, but it is also a way of managing stress. If you are the sort of person everyone runs to with their problems, you have to start thinking of yourself and learn to turn them down once in a while.
