Tips to Play Hockey

Submitted by remediesathome

You can't underestimate the importance of skates. Your feet need to be one with the ice. You need speed, control and protection. Skates are the foundation that all other skills are built on... so don't put your son or daughter behind the 8-ball, by messing this up.

Representing your country in participating international competition held by the International Hockey Federation, receiving cash prizes and awards?
Getting famous in the ice hockey field?

A map is a guide that helps you get from point A to point B. You'd never think about driving from Connecticut to California without some type of guide to help you. Chances are, you'd get lost somewhere along the way. Even driving to an appointment in your own town necessitates some kind of guide if you've never been there before.

One of the best thing that can help you to improve your game are drills. Drills are the time you use to help practice your technique and to improve on it. Drills can be practicing hitting, flicking or pushing the puck, dribbling, shooting at the goal, or practicing penalty shots. You will get a chance to practice these drills between two players or with the whole team.

Shot Accuracy. Go to the rink when there is open skate and just shoot on net. Each shot you take try to set a goal for your self. As your skating toward the goal think in your head, this one is going top right or this one is going just above the pad on left side. Another way to help this is to do sharp shooting like in the all star game. Take four foam plates and duct tape them to the corners. Set up a line as far away as you want and see how many pucks it takes to destroy them all!

Not all lifting trains your muscles in the same way. A lot of players will go to the gym and do 8 or more reps of certain weight, at a pretty medium pace. This kind of lifting will train strength. To train power, a necessity in hockey, you need to use more weight, through fewer repetitions, and explode through the positive part of the lifts quickly (but always in control and with proper form!)

Speed is of the utmost important in hockey, and you can help improve your speed by timing your exercises, especially runs. If you never time yourself, you'll never have a measure of your improvement. Keeping track of your times and always working to beat your best will continuously keep you improving.

If you want to be fast on the ice, it takes more than just working on it during practice. You have to train for speed off the ice as well, whether it be in the gym or outdoors. One of the best ways to train for speed off-ice is to run intervals. Intervals will help you get faster and also improve your endurance. Always remember to time yourself so that you have a goal to beat for next time!
