Utilize The Internet In Your Search For Valarian HerbSubmitted by AnneHarvester Thu, 9 Apr 2009
If you happen to garden, you might have heard of a plant that goes by the name of red valerian. It is a beautiful flowering plant with bright red flowers. It is not, however, the same plant known as Valeriana officinalis, which is commonly known as valerian herb. The part of the plant that is consumed is the valarian root. This comes available as valarian extract or valarian capsules. Valerian herb is a hardy perennial plant. It has fragrant white or pink flowers.
There are several steps that are taken to get the valarian herb from the plant stage to the capsule stage. After the plant is harvested, the roots are removed. The valarian root is soaked in liquid, which helps to soften it and break it down. After the roots are softened, they are ground down to reduce the particle size. Because the roots cannot be stored damp, they next undergo a dehydration process to remove the water. After this, the roots are processed into valarian capsules. Even within the capsules, valarian root gives off a strong scent not unlike aged cheese. There are several common uses for valarian. Valarian capsules may help with muscle cramping and sleep disorders. Valarian extract is commonly used for irritable bowel syndrome and gastrointestinal pain. Valarian capsules may be taken about an hour before you wish to sleep. Some individuals find that the valarian is effective immediately, while others find it becomes more efficient if taken for a period of time. Because valarian extract may make you sleepy, it should not be taken if you are going to drive or operate heavy equipment. Valarian extract may be available in standardized and unstandardized forms. The standardized forms contain a certain percentage of one or two main acids found in valarian, namely valeric acid or valerenic acid. Valeric acid has a smelly odor, although certain forms are used in making perfumes. Valerenic acid may contribute to the sedative effect found in valarian. Valarian is just one of many different types of herbs that you will find available for purchase online. Online herbal merchants provide the public with a wide variety of herbs that come from all parts of the world. These herbs can be used for cooking as well as crafts. Valarian is an herb, and as such, it has not been fully evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration for medicinal uses. Consequently, it should not be considered a medicine, and not used to treat diseases. If you think that you might have a medical condition or problem, you should seek advice promptly from your health care provider.
