Inherited genes are found to be one of the reasons for liver diseases. Inherited liver diseases may affect children of parents who do not have any symptoms of liver disease. But the disease could have been passed down from grandparents.
Treating liver diseases with gene therapy would be one of the ways of dealing with liver diseases. These gene therapies would play an important role in future treatments and might replace surgeries and drugs that are currently used to treat liver diseases. The developments in molecular biology will play an important role in the future treatments of the liver diseases. Diagnosis of patients using methods like polymerase chain reaction is making changes in the way liver diseases are diagnosed. The worst cases of jaundices are often treated with Digitalis effectively. The liver is an extremely important organ which is responsible for detoxification, removal of waste products from the blood and producing bile to aid in the breakdown of fats. This vital organ along with the gallbladder and pancreas are all part of the digestive process in canines. The function of the liver is to control the metabolism of the body. It has to detoxify the different foods that has accumulated and been absorbed by the body. If the liver fails to function well, a person may suffer fatal ramifications. Counseling and rehabilitaion may prove necessary for the patients. Liver transplants become necessary if the situation advances to cirrhosis. Once the patient becomes medically stable, there is a need to abstain from drinking. Although stopping drinking may result in the reversal of fatty liver and hepatitis, liver cirrhosis may continue, but progressive liver deterioration can be checked.
