Bariatric Surgery for Longer Lasting Weight-Loss Results

Submitted by markwalters

The United States, along with a lot of other countries around the world, have been battling with obesity for a long time now. And although it seems that weight loss medications like Xenical, help in tipping the scale to a favorable direction, a lot of people tend to go back to their old eating habits and re-gain the weight they've already lost.

Scientific studies have lead to the development of the bariatric surgery. It is a kind of weight-loss surgery that is done by modifying part of the gastrointestinal tract to reduce excessive food intake as well as excessive nutrient absorption. Unlike liposuction, this procedure does not surgically take away body fat.

With this in mind, the person's fat loss will completely rely on the his willingness to exercise and diet to help use up the excess body fat, as well as make sure that no new fat bulk gets stored in the body.

Undergoing any form of bariatric surgery has been said to produce drastic weight loss in people who are either overweight or obese. It is considered one of the more successful weight loss methods. But more than just helping people lose weight, undergoing bariatric surgery also cuts a person's risk of developing health complications common in obese people down, like hypertension, stroke, heart attack, among the many cardiovascular diseases.

It is important, though, to consider all aspects of the surgery before deciding to undergo it. Because as much as it can help you lose weight and lower your chances of developing obesity-related diseases, it can backfire and manifest some adverse effects like leaks at the incision site, incisional hernia, infections, and gastric dumping syndrome wherein the person feels bloated and develops diarrhea after every meal.

If you look at it, nothing beats having a regular workout session and eating healthy to lose weight. But if you really wish to take the easy way out of being overweight, consult a doctor and discuss all the pros and cons of the other possible means of weight loss.
