How to Be Your Own Diet Police During the Holiday Season

Submitted by Felicity Maris Modesto

Pursuing a diet is easier thought of or said than it is done. At this stage, you must have toyed with the idea of going on a diet way too many times that your imagination must have already jumped to fantastic probabilities, which you would have experienced once you have acquired the ideal body you have been fancying for ages. Falling into a fantasy world where you are a weight loss success is effortless, but actually getting down to the business of ridding yourself of all that unwanted cellulite pound by pound is an uphill battle, taking up more effort than you could have thought possible.

Facing Up to the Threats

Discipline combined with a concrete sense of purpose serves as your best weapon for successful weight loss. Taking the hurdle one day at a time, you can easily succeed in losing all that flab given that you follow a healthy eating plan combined with appropriate physical exercise. But as easy as it may sound, you know all too well that dieting is never without difficulty. Hard enough as it is, maintaining your discipline and keeping your goals in mind can be very challenging, especially during the holiday season when temptations in every taste and form abound. Plus it is during this time when going to holiday parties and family reunions means subjecting yourself to the biggest temptation of all: a succulent feast attended by every high calorie-laden dish imaginable.

Diet Police 101

Times like these call for the diet police. And there are no better diet police around who can enforce your self-discipline better than yourself. To help you along with reining in your appetite during the holiday festivities, below are some valuable suggestions to start you off.
*

Keep your head glued to the future. Remember: overindulgence for today can mean a lifetime on your hips.
*

If you are stressed out, make it a point to stay away from the banquet table for as long as you haven't calmed yourself down. De-stress first by doing enjoyable activities other than gorging on food. Try catching up on your friends' lives for the meantime, for example.
*

Steer clear of stressful circumstances as much as possible. Although these situations may vary from one gathering to another, finding yourself trapped in any of them makes you susceptible to venting your discomfort or stress on the food before you.
*

If you are feeling off prior to attending the party, do yourself a favor by identifying your feelings first. Not acknowledging your negative emotions can put you at risk of unconsciously losing control once you reach the banquet table.
*

Do not let others influence your food choices. If your hostess or host invites you to sample a new dish that screams, “Fat! High Calories! Cholesterol!”oblige by just taking half (or even much less) of the usual serving. Also, do not be taken in if the guests flanking you on both sides at the banquet table have filled their plates or bowls to the brim.
*

Do not deprive yourself entirely. Instead, get a little of everything you like. The calories would not pile up provided you exercise control and moderation.
*

Never make radical changes in your diet just because it is a holiday. Your body does not recognize seasons or breaks; hence, it can never make exemptions or considerations should you decide to give yourself a break from your usual routine.
*

Get more facts about the many different ways to help you manage your self-discipline during the holiday festivities. Load up on knowledge concerning healthy choices among typical banquet fares.
