How To Verify If You're Buying The Real Hoodia Gordonii

Submitted by lets_j2top@yahoo.com

Whenever we feel hungry, it's because our body's insulin levels are bouncing up and down in the body, and this is referred to as hunger. It is this type of body mechanism which causes havoc with most people's dieting routines.
When blood sugar levels rise up, we begin to crave for more sugars and carbohydrates and the body goes into withdrawal. This is the primary reason why people crave ice cream at midnight, and pregnant women crave for eating different types of food. The concept behind the development of Hoodia gordonii is that it was formulated for use as a tool to control, or if possible, stop snacking and overeating because of hormonal hunger.

You may wish to continue eating meals when you have real hunger, however you could eliminate overeating because of hormonal hunger. If an individual is able to eliminate the cravings when you really don’t need any food, you are able to rapidly lose weight because your body has all the energy it needs to function with a much lower calorie count.

How Does This Plant Look?

The Hoodia plant grows in clumps of green upright stems, and although it is often called a cactus because it looks like one, the plant is actually a succulent plant. According to experts, it takes around five years before the plant's purple flowers appear, which signals that the plant can now be harvested.

There are an estimated 13 varieties of this plant, and the only active ingredient identified so far is a natural chemical compound that has been called "p57". At present, only Hoodia gordonii is scientifically proven to contain this chemical compound.

How To Verify If The Hoodia Product Is The Real Thing

According to health industry regulators, a major concern is that it's hard to know if a supplement or product contains pure Hoodia and the noted active ingredient. According to industry sources, one laboratory that analyzes these products is the Costa Mesa-based independent laboratory Alkemists Pharmaceuticals. However, according to independent review experts, there has yet been no definitive, established tests for judging the quality of these types of supplements at present.

An independent group, ConsumerLab.com, has not even tested the many gordonii products for that reason. Even when the manufacturers can produce a certificate, some firms may have submitted a genuine sample of the product to the lab to obtain the seal of authenticity and then used adulterated ingredients in the production process. Weight loss supplement companies might not even be aware that they are using fake or adulterated natural ingredients, since they do not even submit their samples for independent testing.

British manufacturer Phytopharm holds the license to the supplement's active ingredient p57, and claims that their supplements on the market today contain between 0.1 and 0.01% of the claimed amount of the active ingredient. There are some supplements that have been independently and consistently verified as having pure ingredients, according to industry analysts. However, consumers still need to check on a couple of product review Web sites or newsletters first before buying one.

After checking on consumer and buyer's guides, product rating and comparison sites on the Worldwide Web, most observers advice consumers to be extra cautious. It is a fact that some of these so-called "product review sites" have been discreetly created by some firms selling Hoodia, as they use this to explain why their supplements are better, and others are inferior, even though there are no published studies to prove their claims.
