Causes Of Yeast Infections - Common Reasons Why We Get Yeast InfectionsSubmitted by articles@yeastinfectionsnaturalcures.com Thu, 9 Jul 2009
To understand the causes of yeast infections, we need to know that yeast is a fungus that can be found allover, including in the air that we breathe. Warm and moist environments are ideal for them to thrive in. Fungus come in diverse types. Most of them are harmless and some of them even are useful, such as mushrooms and truffles. However, only a small number of yeast cultures are potentially disastrous to us and can create yeast infections, especially one peculiar strain known as Candida albicans.
Candida albicans are always existing with us, on our skin and even inside our bodies. They become difficult when conditions that cause them to grow rapidly and freely exist. Our body's natural defenses protect us from yeast infections. However, when these defenses break down or weakens, we are susceptible to yeast infections. The following is a discussion on 3 of the common causes of yeast infections. A break in the surface of the skin is one of the most common causes of yeast infections. Heat and moisture can cause injuries to the skin surfaces. When warm moist skin surfaces rub together, it breaks down the protective layers and provides opportunities for the yeast to invade into the skin. Areas below skin folds are predisposed to this problem, such as underneath the breasts, in the armpit, in the groin, or between the toes. People who spend many hours working in wet areas, such as in the kitchen, are prone to getting yeast infections. There are good bacteria that exist on our skin and inside our gut that help protect us from yeast infections. They do this by competing for nutrients and also causing an environment that is harmful to yeast. However, when the good bacteria are killed and reduced, the yeast fungus will be able to grow fast without hindrance, thus creating the infection. This can occur when taking antibiotics, steroids, or certain prescribed drugs.. People having troubles with their body's immune system are susceptible to yeast infection. So another one of the common causes of yeast infection is a low immune system. Factors that can weaken the immune system include malnutrition, not enough exercises, insufficient rest and excessive stress. The immune system can also be impaired by diseases such as HIV and cancer. The immune system is also weakened by certain drugs that are taken for medical reasons, such as anti-rejection drugs used by transplant patients. By being conscious of these common causes of yeast infections, we can take the appropriate actions to minimize our chances of getting this dreaded condition.
