Yoga for Fertility and ConceptionSubmitted by remediesathome Sat, 4 Jul 2009
With more and more women delaying having children until later in life, there are a growing number of couples having difficulties conceiving. From their mid thirties onwards, women's chances of getting pregnant drop dramatically and many are turning to medical intervention to assist them in having a baby.
Salamba Sirsasana (Supported Headstand), Salamba Sarvangasana (Supported Shoulderstand), Setu Bandha Sarvangasana (Suppported Bridge Pose) are recommended because of their hypothesized effects on hormonal balance. The reclining poses like Bound Supta Baddha Konasana (Reclined Bound Angle Pose), Supta Virasana (Reclined Hero's Pose) are helpful as they open and elongate the abdominal area. To be truly happy and healthy, you need to be aware of "The Oneness of All". You need to bear in mind the Universality of Life. All of the Universe is alive, vibrating and pulsating with life and energy and motion. There is nothing dead in the Universe. Life is everywhere, and always accompanied by intelligence. There is no such thing as a dead, unintelligent Universe. Instead of being atoms of Life floating in a sea of death, we are atoms of Life surrounded by an ocean of Life, pulsating, moving, thinking, living. These techniques usually are made one after the other as if it was the stages of a process. It is for that reason that most habitual is to begin with the practice of the Hatha Yoga since in our culture we are more tie to the physicist who to the spiritual thing. Whatever practical about a human being can be said about his physic, psyche, mind and Chetna (in English no better word than awareness is available for this) is there in Yoga Sutra. Yoga Sutra starts with the proposition that the mind's expositions (Vritti) are attracted to the worldly objects (Vishayas) and by confining mind's expositions from being attracted to the worldly objects a seeker can realize his existence and hence liberate himself from this world's afflictions. Another pose that stimulates the hormones is the Bridge Pose. Lie on the floor and bend your knees. Setting your feet on the floor, make sure your heels are as near the sitting bones as possible. Exhale and press your inner feet and arms into the floor. At the same time, push your tailbone upwards, towards the pubis, firming the buttocks and lift your buttocks off the floor. Many couples are concerned that they will not be able to do any of the yoga exercises, as they have never done yoga before. You don't need to be as flexible as a yogi master to do infertility yoga. The exercises are very gentle and you should not force or push the body beyond your own limits. With repeated exercising, you will notice your flexibility will improve quite naturally. The total expenditure involved in the infertility yoga practice might be another concern. I would recommend you to purchase a DVD that explains how to do the yoga positions, but apart from that, there's not much else you need to do. All you need is practicing it on a mat or rug, a quiet environment, and comfortable cloths while you practice. Yoga DVDs with detailed 'how to do it techniques' and with relaxing music are available in the market.
