31 Way My Family, Friends and I Save Money

Submitted by marilyn

1.When I get a raise I put the amount that actually shows up in my pay check (after taxes etc) in savings rather than in checking.
2.If I am writing a check I round up to the next ten and either put that in savings or let it build in my checking account. (IE: If the item was $45.79 I would record in my check book $50.00).
3.When I want something at the store that is an impulse decision I don't buy it. If I keep thinking about it; I go back later and buy it. This way I know if it is something I really want/need or just think I do at the time.
4.I save all coins. I never give the clerk silver change, even if it is a matter of only a few cents. Every month I deposit the change into my bank account. I never miss this money and by saving about $20.00 to $30.00 a month this way I have extra money to pay on my credit card.
5.I always pay off my credit card in full every month so there is no interest charge.
6.I buy in bulk at reduced prices, and then I divide into smaller packaging.
7.I don't have a house phone; we use our cell phones only.
8.I don't subscribe to cable T.V.
9.I buy quality products, clothing etc. It costs more up front but they last longer and it saves money in the long run.
10.When things are on sale I stock up.
11.I buy seasonal clothing and supplies when they are on clearance.
12.I use the Red Box for DVD's and I get their Red Box codes to same more money.
13.I give my children an allowance, I teach them to budget their money. This way they don't nickel and dime me to death when we go to the store.
14.I shop with cash.
15.I keep my receipts with me. If I had purchased an item before and it is now on sale I get a price adjustment.
16.I shop on line. I don't have the temptation of buying what I don't need or hadn't planned on buying as I do when I go to a store. I look for places that have free shipping. (L.L.Bean has free shipping if you use their credit card, just remember to pay it off as soon as you get the bill so there is no interest).
17.I use www.grocerygeru.com where there are free coupons and other offers.
18.I cancel newspapers and magazines I don't read.
19.I don't have extra services on my home phone.
20.I fill my car with fuel once a week. When it's gone I stay home, it makes me more conscious of where I drive and how often.
21.I lump errands together geographically.
22.I run my dishwasher only when full.
23.I don't go to movies, I check out videos/DVD.
24.When we go out to dinner we split the entree and we only go out about once every three months.
25.I don't buy soft drinks.
26.I pack my own lunch to take to work.
27.I buy the postage that remains the same forever even when postage rates increase.
28.I buy greeting cards from www.Currentcatalog.com.
29.My children wear hand me downs and hand me over's.
30.I shop at thrift stores for my children's summer play clothes.
31.When we vacation we pack a cooler with snacks and lunches.

Humm, I wonder what other ways we can save money.
