As thousands of students settle into their halls and shared houses across the UK this month, many will also be getting used to a new furniture - the type of which many may not have ever known before. Student house furniture is a style unto itself. Often old and well used, sometimes new and tacky, but always cheap - so how can a landlord furnish a student house and ever get it right?

Kitchen
Out of all the rooms in the house, the kitchen is likely to be used the most - and to be subjected to more wear and tear. That said, whereas cheap can be very cheerful in other parts of the house it does not always pay off when considering electrical equipment which will be depended on by tenants every day.

Perhaps, more than anywhere, the kitchen is a place where it pays to spend - and if it is clearly new and smart at the start of term, those who use it may be more inclined to look after it in the future. That said, it is also worth keeping the room quite simple, with plenty of cupboard and fridge space, and draining areas for large bursts of washing up.

Living Room
Comfort is the key for most living rooms, yet sofas and chairs which are easy to clean, maintain and move about are always good for students. A simple sturdy TV table with storage, and a cheap set of shelves will be a step to avoiding clutter after people move in and get mixed up in uni life.

Remember that simple sofas and suites are quite easy to re-cover in the future, and so it may be worth investing in a set that looks like it will stand the test of time - with the intention of updating it every couple of years or so.

Bedrooms
Again, although cost is important, space is a massive consideration for a furnished student bedroom. Beds can benefit from having storage space underneath, and a drawer-less divan bed can be a massive waste in a small room.

Chest of drawers and wardrobes today come made from a range of cost-effective materials, and flat packed to make transport and assembly simple. Additionally, shelves and bed-side tables are a small expense which are often overlooked - but they can make a students life far easier - and lessen the reason for floor clutter.

--
Sarah Maple writes about a wide range of furniture for the home from shelving storage to corner sofas.

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

Fresh water aquariums can house both tropical fish and cold water fish depending on your choice with each group of fish possessing different requirements. Tropical fish consists of Tetras, Barbs, Danios, Rasboras, live bearers, Anabantoids and bottom dwelling fish such as Loaches and Corydoras.

Tetras consist of the popular Neon Tetra and Cardinal Tetra and certain unheard of fish such as the Phantom Tetra, Diamond Tetra, Congo Tetra and Bleeding Heart Tetra. Other Tetras include the Splashing Tetra, Rummy Nose Tetra and Lemon Tetra. Tetras are shoaling fish and should be kept in groups of five or more since they feel safer in large groups. Danios such as Zebra Danios and Pearl Danios are also shoaling fish and look best in shoals of five or more.

Barbs consist of the popular Tiger Barbs, Five Banded Barb, Cherry Barb, Checker Barb and Tinfoil Barb. Barbs are considered to be fin nippers and are not recommended to be kept with fish that have long flowing fins.

Anabantoids consist of Gouramis and Siamese Fighter Fish which are also known as Betta Splendens. Gouramis consist of the Pearl Gourami, Dwarf Gourami, Thick Lip Gourami, Kissing Gourami and Honey Gourami. Betta Splendens consist of the half moon variation, Delta Variation, Super Delta variation, Veil Tail variation, Plakat variation and the wild type. Betta Splendens cannot be housed together and the males will fight if kept together. Betta Splendens are best kept individually in 3 gallon aquariums with no tank mates since they are semi aggressive fish. Both Betta Splendens and Gouramis breathe air from the surface of the water and should not be kept in Lilly vases.

Livebearers such as Guppies, Mollies, Platys, Swordtails and Halfbeaks are community fish and do not harm other fish. These fish are known as livebearers since they give birth to free swimming fry and do not lay eggs. It is possible to get various variations of livebearers such as Sailfin Mollies and different colored Guppies, Swordtails and Platys.

The most popular Cichlids consist of the Oscar, Discus and Angelfish. Angelfish can be kept in a community setup when they are small but they do best in a species only tank. Oscars grow to be a foot long and are aggressive fish therefore it is recommended to keep them with large semi aggressive fish. Discus fish are delicate and require pristine water conditions and discus are not recommended for beginners.

Catfish such as Loaches and Corydoras are best suited in community aquariums. These bottom dwelling fish work as scavengers and eat the uneaten food in the aquarium, but it is important to provide sinking pellets to these fish on a regular basis. Plecostomas are also known as sucker mouth catfish and can help clean the algae in your aquarium. Their diet must be supplemented with algae pellets and driftwood for them to gnaw on. The common Plecostomos grows up to a 16 inches and are not ideal fish for small aquariums. Bottom dwelling fish cannot eat fish poop as it is commonly believed and hence regular water changes with filtration is required even if you keep these fish.

--
When it comes to Brightwell Aquatics, the Protein Skimmers used to noise reduction.
Human progress has been as much a quest for convenience and efficiency as it has been for raw achievement. Shopping has been an important, integral part of human culture since the beginning of organized agriculture and the formation of communities of people. Greek agoras, open air markets, dry goods shops, supermarkets - as civilization has advanced there has always been a place people could go to purchase their needs. Large communities often develop around collections of these markets, giving them the well-deserved title of shopping centers.

However, there is a certain convenience in shopping from the comfort of one's own home, a convenience that has been met in the past through mail-order catalogs, shopping television channels, and home-delivered grocery services. With the advent of the Internet and the World Wide Web, this trend has reached its culmination and most elegant expression yet.

A Matter of Convenience

The advantage to online shopping stems from the same advantages of the mail-order catalogs and the televised infomercials or shop at home channels - the goods are purchased, ordered, and then delivered without the necessity of a special trip. Online shopping goes further in that it allows for more complete control over the shopping experience. With previous methods of shopping from home, users were limited to the selection presented to them. Catalogs had a finite inventory that subscribers could select from, and audiences had to wait on the shopping channels to present the items that they wanted. In fact, this was a fairly clever ploy to encourage impulse buying, as subscribers would inevitably come across something nifty in a commercial or advertisement that they simply had to have, beyond what they originally intended to search out.

Online shoppers don't have to settle; search engines allow users to locate exactly what they're looking for, or come as close as is possible. Looking for books? A quick search for online bookstores brings up a list of names big and small. Are you curious about food delivery in your neighborhood? Dozens of restaurants are a few searches away from anyone with a web browser. No waiting, just quick and convenient searching for exactly what the customer wants.

Additionally, online shopping is not an antisocial or lazy behavior. Indeed, having the speed and convenience of scheduling a delivery allows shoppers great chunks of free time that they would otherwise have spent out in town shopping. Instead they can take time to be with friends, or schedule important appointments. It also provides a way for the disabled or recuperating to get the things they need without having to arrange elaborate travel accommodations.

A Matter of Savings

With the convenience of online shopping comes the flexibility to search for savings. In most shopping circumstances, purchasers are limited to the specific deals offered by various shopping outlets, be they local supermarkets, catalogs, or other means. With the web, shoppers can quickly look up inventory sales, coupons, and other bargains with a few minutes of research, and easily compare the costs side by side. The user and their ability to do a little research, not just the stores and the coupons they choose to offer at a particular time, determine the best deal.

One cost that does come up in the matter of shopping online is the cost of shipping. However, this is not necessarily the fly in the ointment. First of all, it can simply be substituted for the cost of gasoline inherent in many shopping trips, or in time and energy for those who walk or bike to a physical store. Every trip to the store burns gas and takes time, just as every delivery requires shipping costs. However, there are ways to eliminate shipping and handling fees, yet no one has come forward with a way not to burn gas while driving a car.

Many sites offer special deals, such as free shipping on orders above a certain cost, or discounted delivery for customers in a certain geographic area. Consider a family that shops at the market twice a week, traveling five miles each way, spending perhaps a dollar in gas each way, and thus four dollars in the week. By waiting to shop once in the week, and doing the shopping online, they eliminate the extra trip, save the cost of the shipping, the wear and tear on the car, and the total time spent shopping. This equates to more money in their pockets to spend on the things they want, when they want them.

A Matter of Thought

Like everything relating to the web and online conveniences, online shopping requires a little bit of planning and thought, but pays off in big ways. As mentioned above, the biggest advantage is the ability to compare. Users should hunt for deals and compare prices to get the best offer they can. But the web offers so much more - consumer advocacy websites can warn users away from unethical dealers, and social networking sites can promote awareness of high quality, low price alternatives to other items. The web is a very powerful tool, and its advantages will reward users who take the time to look through the myriad of options available. So spend a little time shopping around online, and let yourself be surprised by the savings and the convenience.

--
Janet Davis and her husband are health and nutrition entrepreneurs.
Family Funds - Is Having Children Going Out of Fashion?

As we gradually move out of recessionary times, the need to save and to get the most from our savings is at the forefront of every parent's mind. While the simple answer for decent returns is to stop spending and to deposit a good amount of cash in a fixed rate account, this is easier said than done when plans for a family are still being thought about - and have been the subject of discussion since before the credit crunched.

Yet, while it is particularly difficult to predict when the best financial time to have children will occur, recent research from Irish parenting advice website, RollerCoaster.ie, is showing that some mothers may now be less enthusiastic about the prospect of having children because of the financial implications involved.

In results from a RollerCoaster.ie survey published in September, 78 percent of parents said they would hesitate to expand their families because of the increased costs involved. More than 50 percent of mothers asked admitted that it is not currently worth their while to work - because of costs such as those for childcare - and they would be better off if they were claiming social welfare instead.

The survey comes before child benefit payments are set to be either cut, taxed or means tested in the near future as part of the upcoming Budget. Yet the research does seem to have a definite focus on families that already have a number of children, and doesn't give much insight into whether prospective first-time parents are set to change their family plans. I don't hesitate to add that I doubt many adults who had plans to start a family around the time of the credit crunch are still set on putting it off - even if they did so a year ago.

Research in the UK signifies, at least, that it is not money itself which is of most concern to young mothers. In a survey by WorkingMums.co.uk, a 79 percent majority of mums pointed out that flexibility in work was the top priority during the recession - while more than half (54 percent) admitted that they would take a lower paid job for more flexible hours. One thing that is consistent in both sets of research, however, is that as the economy looks to improve more parents are eager to spend more time at home with their children - and employers are certain to need to adapt to this.

--
Paul Roberts writes about family finance, savings accounts and looks at the best savings rates available.

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

What To Bring A New Mom In The Hospital

A new baby arrives…great fun! You want to visit the new mom and child in the hospital…whatshould you bring? Should you bring a gift there or wait until they get home? Should you get a gift for the newborn? The mom? The older sibling? Lots of questions to consider. But since I have had three children and visited many more in the hospital I'll give you some tips that worked for me.

The perfect gift while visiting the hospital is simply time. Spend time with the new mom, new baby and be sure to take a camera. My favorite newborn shots were taken in the hospital and given to me by my visitors. Looking back you can't remember how little the newborns were or who actually visited. Getting snapshots commemorating the event are great to keep and look back upon over the years as the little one grows up. A special gift indeed! Spend time holding the little one…giving mom a needed break…while at the hospital. Send dad out for coffee or give him a chance to run home and shower. If you have time give it willingly to the new family. Food is always a good gift too when you visit the hospital! Snacks for the room are handy and chocolate chip cookies are good for mom, dad and other siblings…who doesn't like chocolate chip cookies?

When the new mom gets home the best gift to bring is a meal or a cleaning lady. New moms are too busy to cook and clean and having someone do that for them is such a relief! Of course, cute little sleepers or outfits are good too. If there are siblings at home you may want to consider a little something for the older sibling…coloring book, ball, jump rope; something that will keep the older brother or sister occupied while mom takes care of the newborn. Personalized gifts are especially good if the newborn has brothers or sisters. It's nice to have something new and just for them and putting their name on it makes it extra special.

As you can see little things are the best gifts to give new moms and tots—time, food, an outfit; whatever fits your budget. As always, it's the thought that counts in gift giving!

You can find great personalized gifts and gifts for mom and siblings at www.jackandjillsbabyboutique.com. Happy shopping!

--
Mary McNeil is owner and manager of an online baby shower store http://www.jackandjillsbabyboutique.com where you can find everything you need for a baby shower...from invitations to diaper cakes to decorations and gifts. A truly one stop shop for all your baby shower needs.

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

Weathering the "PineApple Express" Storm

For centuries the earth has followed the same weather patterns over and over again.
A storm that sprouts up during the October, November and December winter months, yet still not known to many, is called the "PineApple Express".
Its' origin began long ago in the humid tropical Hawaiian region. The name derived from the islands best known edible tropical fruit, the luscious pineapple.
This storm brings with it a jetstream of strong warm winds and moist air. The precipitation is unstoppable, traveling miles across vast ocean towards the populated Pacific Northwest region. Its' fury is like an accelerated locomotive with a purpose.
Weather alerts saturate the airwaves with warnings of its' arrival. Yet very few residents heed the warning.

When the pineapple express reaches landfall and collides with the Pacific cold front, an overpowering effect causes a drastic change in the temperature. The results of this collision has been known to deliver heavy downpours, massive floods, swollen rivers, mudslides, washouts and the melting of snow covered mountains. In many cases residents living in low line areas will evacuate due to water rising above sea level.
Powerful winds and debri can turn a protective umbrella backwards in a snap and possibly cause citizens to go airborne.
The pineapple express dominates with dangerous intent and we will never know the intended direction without weather alert technology.
Although we cannot command or predict the weather when we arise each morning, our awareness of daily and future forecast is imminent.

--
IreneReynolds.

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

Every part of a wedding takes careful planning. From the ceremony, to the women's rings to the men's ring to the flowers to the appetizers you serve before dinner, everything has to be thought out to the smallest detail months before the ceremony begins. But what about the first dance? Isn't that important to? While many couples might go for the standard slow R&B or soft rock 80's song, some might want to "hip it up" a bit and dance to something a bit more contemporary. There are a lot of great songs are there in the indie rock universe, why limit yourself? Here are a few interesting songs to consider when trying to pick that perfect song.

"I Will Follow You into the Dark"- Death Cab For Cutie
Sure, it's a song about death. On the surface that doesn't sound like an ideal first dance song. But if you listen to the lyrics it's also one of the deepest songs about love and commitment to come around in quiet a long time. It's a song about loving someone so much that you want to spend eternity with them. What is more romantic then that? P.S. It's also an easy song to dance to.

"P.S. You Rock My World" (Live Country Version)- The Eels
Like most of The Eels songs, "P.S. You Rock My World" is a song rooted in tragedy. Then again, it's also a song about hope following a bad time in one's life. Regardless, it's an absolutely beautiful song would fit well into a first dance. If you can get your hands on it, there is a live version of this song that features a country-ish vibe complete with slide guitar. It might work a little better in a dance then the acoustic tinged album version.

"Crown of Love" -The Arcade Fire
Great song- probably the most "danceable" song in the Arcade Fire repertoire. The problem is, it's kinda of a downer lyrically. There are cover bands that have done instrumental versions of "Crown of Love", so if you can track it down it might be worth it.

"Gymnast High Above the Ground" - The Decemberists
The Decemberists are one of the most theatrically-sounding bands in the indie-rock universe. Yet "Gymnast High Above The Ground" is done with an acoustic guitar. It's also beautiful and dance worthy- if you don't mind your first song being a dance to a tale about a gymnast.

The Swell Season- "Falling Slowly"
A great piano and guitar love song. It's an Oscar-winning song about falling in love. Perfect "first dance" bait if you ask me. May be a little hard to dance to, but with some practice it will be perfect.

Author Kimberly Green: Picking the song is as fun as picking the womens and mens rings

--
Author Kimberly Green: Picking the song is as fun as picking the womens and mens rings

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

Foxfarm Nutrients For Hydroponic Gardening

Foxfarm Nutrients come in a full range of organic as well as inorganic nutrients and plant supplements. There are differences in the nutrient components, and these changes in the formulas help to induce the plants to behave in certain, helpful, ways.

Foxfarm fertilizers, as do all types of fertilizers, have listed on their labels their ingredients and the proportions used in the particular formula that you are examining. Plant nutrients are broken down into macronutrients as well as micronutrients. The big three that you will always see listed, as well as the percentage contained in the specific fertilizer, are listed in this order of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, which are notated chemically as N,P and K. The other macronutrients include calcium, magnesium, sulfur and silicon; micronutrients, found in very small amounts in the fertilizer, consist of chlorine, iron, boron, manganese, sodium, zinc, copper, nickel and molybdenum. Nitrogen is used to promote foliage growth, and thus you would want to look for a Foxfarm fertilizer that had a high percentage of nitrogen if you were trying to grow salad greens or a gorgeous lawn, for instance. A higher percentage of phosphorus promotes flower and seed formation as well as rapid plant growth and root growth, so gardeners growing fruits and flowers would want a Foxfarm fertilizer with more phosphorus. Foxfarm nutrients that offer a high percentage of potassium when compared to the other two elements help plants to improve their fruit quality and it also helps to make the plant more resistant to diseases. It is important to note that most often Foxfarm nutrients contain all three of these important elements, but the percentages of each will vary depending on the specific formula and what the purpose of the Foxfarm fertilizer is.

One of the Foxfarm nutrients that emphasizes nitrogen is the Foxfarm American Pride Organic Based Dry Mix. With a 9-6-6 formula for nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, it is designed to boost foliage production as well as the size and color intensity of blooms and buds.

A popular Foxfarm fertilizer is Foxfarm Big Bloom. Foxfarm Big Bloom puts an emphasis on phosphorus and potassium. With these elements readily available, Foxfarm Big Bloom promotes luscious large flower blooms, and it improves the fragrance of flowers as well as the taste of fruits and vegetables. Foxfarm Big Bloom can also be used in conjunction with other Foxfarm nutrients, and they will not cause fertilizer burns in the plants, which can occur if plants receive too much fertilizer.

You can find these and other fine Foxfarm fertilizers available online from fine discount hydroponic supply sources.

--
Susan Slobac writes about--foxfarm nutrients.

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

Modular Upgrade, Efficient, Economical Home Addition

In the past adding a new addition your home usually meant a long difficult process from start to finish of the project. A new concept in adding on to an existing home is to add a modular upgrade. Regardless of whether your home was originally designed and constructed modularly, it can more than likely be upgraded or expanded utilizing a modular addition.

So you think you want to expand your existing home with a well planned out of addition. You've looked at all the possibilities, spoken to several contractors and gotten your estimates. But when you look at the figures on the page you instantly go into shock thinking there's no way you'll ever be able to afford the addition to your home.

Modular construction to the rescue, have you ever thought about contacting a modular home construction company to see if they can provide you with a modular upgrade to your existing home. What you find may surprise you. Most homes regardless of their original type of construction module or old school conventional construction can be expanded modularly if the right plan is implemented. Most modular construction companies are more than happy to work with existing home owners to make their

Implementing the right plan begins with you and your idea of what you want in a home addition. Once you have in mind how you want to expand your home and where you want the expansion to occur you need to make a few notes to keep the idea fresh. Now with the idea in hand you can contact modular home designer or a modular home construction company.

A qualified modular home designer or modular home construction company can usually help you with preparation of a blueprint for the construction of your new edition. If they are located relatively close to your existing home, they will usually have all the necessary information needed to be able to plan your addition to meet all existing local building codes, which will usually be a plus in the cost department for you.

During your first meet with the company or designer, you will probably discuss your initial idea for the addition. The designer will normally make a CAD design of any sketch you might have or from your verbal or written dimensions and design Ideas. From the CAD or computer aided design program the designer can help you to better visualize what your addition will look like. In the beginning this drawing may only be a very rudimentary mark up of the overall plan.

The next step would be for the designer or modular construction company to accompany you to your home to investigate the area that is to be expanded upon. They will have the expertise to actually validate your plans for expansion. It is very important at this stage to be sure that your overall plan is valid and that no major problems can be seen that might eliminate your home from the possibility of modular expansion.

The onsite inspection will also give the designer the opportunity to see the work area first hand giving insight for later use in the actually design process. The designer may see details that will allow for better design recommendations or that might have been overlooked in your original simple design plans. Those recommendations might be as simple as how and what type of lighting is used to wall construction, layout and window placement.

If the addition will contain plumbing there may be hidden consideration for routing of pipes and drains that may not be overtly evident. Or it may be necessary to put a routing pump into the design to handle waste water issues. Many times home owners have ended up with nightmare problems due to poor overall addition planning from conventional construction contractors using outdated plan development practices.

One thing that a good modular expansion designer will always look for is proper access for needed construction equipment to the area in which the addition will be placed. Another issue that the designer will deal with, one of the most difficult in many expansion projects is the roof line. It is purely an art form to design and construct an addition in a manner that it cannot be detected as an addition. The roofline is usually the giveaway. Good modular designers incorporate special techniques that allow for adjoining roof lines to flow into or be modified and joined in such a manner as to make it all look seamless to the casual viewer.

Adding the addition modularly will ultimately save time and money in the overall construction process. Your addition will be constructed off site then hauled to the location and put into place. This cuts down on overall disruption to your day to day living. Helps to keep the neighbors happy, and minimizes the inevitable damage to surrounding landscaping. So if it's time for a new home addition, make it a modular upgrade. Contact a modular design or modular construction company for your new addition.

--
Scott Best is a freelance Author in association with
New Modular Info.com.
In the heart of Tuscany lies Cortona. Just a few minutes drive from Lago Trasimeno and about an hour by train from beautiful Florence. A town could not be more picturesque, and that is why it was chosen as the location for filming the movie, "Under the Tuscan Sun." If watching that film and visiting Tuscany has lighted the fire within you for settling into your own Tuscan dream, then this may be the perfect town for you. The setting is entrancing, with hills dotted over with olive trees, small family owned vineyards abounding and homes that simple say "welcome."

When you have been drawn to pursue the dream of settling in Tuscany and have written your list of pros and cons and had the pros outweigh the cons by a landslide, then you are ready to start your international house hunting. Finding a Cortona villa for sale or stumbling across one of the farmhouses for sale in Cortona will most likely take you a little more work than it did in the movie. Simply stepping off of your tour bus and stumbling upon a for sale sign to the home of your dreams would be ideal, but a little more leg work and internet searching will, most likely, be involved.

The internet portion of the search is the easier, but decidedly less fun, portion of the quest. Finding a good real estate agent that understands exactly what you are looking for and has ample listings of Cortona villas for sale is a high priority. Drooling over the luscious photos of all the beautiful farmhouses for sale in Cortona will only serve to feed the fire of your desire to relax among the soft, rolling Tuscan hills and verdant landscape. Your agent should be able to narrow down your choices to those that suit your price range, your space requirements and your needs for any extra features and amenities. Then comes the fun part.

Traveling to the idyllic landscape of Tuscany to actually view the list of farmhouses for sale in Cortona, villas for sale and enjoying the surrounding countryside while you do, is not a bad way to house hunt. It is quite a bit more enjoyable than spending rush hour in bumper to bumper freeway traffic to view a property that will not have its own 100 year old vineyard. Viewing the properties first hand will only reinforce the desire to pursue this goal and the charm of many of these homes is irrefutable. With centuries old stone walls, a landscape among the most beautiful in the world and the ability to grow just about anything in the fertile soil these homes call to you to get back to simplicity.

When you have found your perfect farmhouse or villa, and signed on the proverbial dotted line, the only thing left for you to do is settle in and enjoy. Every friend and family will welcome the idea of coming to visit you. Spending warm spring evenings dining al fresco with locally grown food and locally produced wine will end with a glorious red sun setting quietly behind the Tuscan hills.

--
Federica Mannelli is a journalist dealing with tourism and holiday accommodation in Italy.
