Ideas for Birthday Party Themes

Submitted by neillisa

Every party starts with a good theme, and that's especially true when it comes to birthdays. Sure, there's always the balloons, the birthday cake, and the party hats-but if you want it to be really special, you have to personalize it a little. A good birthday theme puts the celebrant in the spotlight while still making each guest feel appreciated. It's not as complicated as it sounds-all it takes is some planning and a bit of creative thinking.

The easiest way to set a theme is by choosing a dominant color. Sometimes, colors alone are enough to set the mood, as long as they're well chosen and executed. Use the birthday celebrant's favorite color for all the major pieces: the tablecloth, the streamers, the seat covers. Throw in a secondary color to give it some variety and better bring out the color scheme. Make sure to keep it consistent; otherwise the place will just look muddled.

For a children's party, animals and cartoon characters are always a good choice. Every kid has a favorite animal, and a zoo or safari theme is sure to be a hit. Consider birds and butterflies for a young girl's party, and a jungle theme for boys. Also look into character designs such as Disney or the Looney Tunes. Newer characters like Spongebob and Dora can also be an option. They could be more expensive, but it's always worth seeing a smile on your young guests' faces.

You can also personalize the theme according to the person's interests. Choose a garden theme for a nature lover, or a sports theme for an athlete. If they have a favorite book or movie, try planning a costume party where everyone's dressed up as one of the characters.

Try to bring the theme to the table as well. One of the easiest ways to do this is by making custom-designed cupcakes. Unlike cakes, cupcakes take less time and are easier to decorate. With just a bit of frosting and some food color, you can turn even store-bought cupcakes into unique treats guaranteed to impress your guests-and make the birthday a lot more special.

Choosing a theme for a birthday party doesn't have to be complicated. It's all about knowing what everyone likes and keeping it consistent. Here are some ideas to help you out. Find more information about birthday cupcake decoration.
