Planning a Birthday Menu

Submitted by neillisa

Birthday parties are always fun, not least because of the great food and good company. There\'s no better way to celebrate one\'s big day than with quality time with friends and family, and of course, lots of food to go around. But if you\'re the one planning the event, you\'ll realize that it takes a lot of work to plan a good menu. How do you make sure everyone\'s well-fed and enjoying the party?

Well, the good news is that it\'s easier than they make it sound. All you really need is a theme to go with and a few good ideas. Don\'t be afraid to experiment with ideas; the more unique it is, the better your party will stand out.

Let\'s start with the theme-every party needs one, and the theme you choose will guide all your decisions from the décor to the menu. For example, you can go for a country theme and serve classic comfort foods, or a children\'s party where you have child favorites like sandwiches and ice cream. Decide whether you need more than one main dish or a variety of appetizers. Keep a good balance of light and heavy dishes so that guests don\'t end up too full or too unsatisfied.

You should also keep your guest list in mind when you plan your menu. For a small, casual party, you can probably go with a buffet setting-it gives guests more flexibility and saves you the trouble of making individual servings. You can easily give it an elegant touch by using more formal settings and making an elaborate centerpiece.

Dessert is of course an important part of the menu, perhaps even the most important. A birthday cake is usually traditional, but nothing\'s stopping you from trying something different. Many people are trying birthday cupcakes, which are a lot cheaper and easier to serve than a large cake. You can also personalize your cupcakes for the occasion-frost them with your favorite colors, add some candy toppers, or even create personal messages. Just arrange them in the middle of the table and they\'ll even double as a nice centerpiece.

Creating a birthday menu doesn\'t have to be hard
