The classy and sophisticated appeal of true natural cedar furniture creates a design sure to beautify any home. Its durability and natural properties make owning cedar furniture a well worth it investment.
Of most woods, cedar furniture is one of the best for most weather conditions. Although, not intricately designed like some resin or wrought iron furniture, the simplistic yet sophisticated design of cedar furniture will suit any garden design such as rustic, nautical, country, modern, and Tuscan-inspired.
The use of cedar furniture and garden décor is endless. A towering cedar arbor would welcome anyone into a beautiful English garden. A simple backless cedar bench would create a cozy nook to a small courtyard or front entrance to your home. Create a grand dining and entertaining area in your outdoor living space sure to make every guest feel at home. Set a cozy loveseat around a warm fire pit for romantic conversation. Or add accent tables, potting benches, storage benches and gliders to finish an already designed space. Cedar furniture can surely inspire any outdoor living space to meet your deign needs.
Regardless of the scale of furniture and garden décor you choose, to get the most out of your furniture it is important to understand how to take care for your investment. Fortunately, cedar is a very low maintenance wood and acquires natural properties that make owning cedar furniture carefree.
The beauty of cedar is that it has a natural resistance to outdoor elements (moisture, insects, bacteria & fungus). It doesn't warp, fade or rot, it's aromatic, sturdy and durable. It stays cool even on the hottest days, and is a naturally safe alternative to pressure-treated wood containing arsenic.
If left natural, over time cedar will age, bringing out silver-gray tones highlighted by streaks formed from the wood and the zinc hardware used to assemble it. Don't like the streaks? Don't fear. A good Thompsons Wood Sealer will help inhibit the grain from rising, but will allow the natural gray tones to come through with time.
Using oil finishes is not recommended on cedar lawn furniture or planters.
Some cedar products are finished with weather resistant outdoor paint. As with any exterior surface, paint is expected to crack and flake, eventually needing occasional refreshing. Stain, on the other hand, is more breathable and a much better choice for spicing up your cedar.
If your cedar products are going to be buried into the ground, we do recommend treating that area of the wood with a preservative.
