People who live alone are hardly inspired to cook for themselves, let alone cook well. Most of them are happy just microwaving meals or ordering fast food. But that\'s not only unhealthy; it also gets expensive after a while. Living alone doesn\'t mean spending more or giving up good food-in fact, it just means there\'s more of the good stuff to go around. Here are some tips to help you make the most of solo cooking.

1. Plan, plan, plan. If you go to the grocery unprepared, you\'ll be making your meal decisions on the go-and that often results in poor choices. How many times have you bought a fun-looking frozen meal, only to forget about it and let it go bad? Before going shopping, make a list of what you want to have for the week, and make your shopping list accordingly.

2. Get small to medium appliances. With more and more people adapting to urban life, manufacturers have come up with more products to suit the single dweller. Go for smaller pots, pans, and kettles, making sure to leave room for the occasional party or gathering. The safest choice is to get appliances good for two or three-small enough for everyday cooking, but big enough to hold the occasional large meal.

3. Cook with a crock pot. Crock pot cooking is making a comeback, and many singles are finding it a valuable tool in the kitchen. With a crock pot, you only need to prepare your ingredients and put them in-the pot itself does the rest of the work. You just leave it on in the morning and it\'ll be done by the time you\'re home. For busy people who hardly have time to cook, this can come in really handy.

4. Use leftovers. When you\'re eating alone, you can\'t help but have leftovers, and sometimes they\'re just not enough to make a second meal. What you can do is prepare excess food on purpose, so that you can freeze and reheat the rest. That way, you only cook once and have enough food for the next day or two.
