Getting the Most from Your Laundry Detergent

Submitted by vvali58

There are so many kinds of laundry detergent out there to pick and choose from. The most important thing to remember is to choose the one that fits how you do laundry.
If you have a tendency to do most of your laundry in cold water, to save dollars, the planet, then a liquid detergent can be your best friend. This is especially true when it comes to larger loads and darker items. Clumps or streaks of white power across the legs of your trousers aren't going to win you any points. And crunchy corners of blankets and other delicate collectibles can be frustrating as you don't want to wash these items every day!
Look for a product that won't cause any skin irritations. Changing soaps can be tricky, so watch to see whether or not anybody has a reaction. Make it easier by not changing more than one product at a time in your home, and don't mention it. This way you‘ll know if the reaction is real or due to your suggestion.
Using too much soap can also lead to a reaction, so make sure you check that you've used enough water to dilute the detergent. If your clothing comes out a little sticky, simply throw it back in and run a quick rinse cycle.
A liquid laundry detergent can also be easier to store. The bottle is taller and doesn't take up the same amount of shelf space. Make sure you watch how much you pour. Read the directions and then watch how it works on your garments. Often times you'll find there's room for creativity.
Also check and see how the detergent works for tough stains. Can you soak items ahead of time in the washer or simply dab a bit on the spot and throw it in with the rest of the wash.
Laundry habits and skills are important to share with everyone in the house. You never know when it might come in handy for someone to know what goes in the dryer and what does not.
Sometimes it's through experimenting on our own that we understand how it works. To help with this process, leave clear instructions that are easy to follow.
Make a list of the basics and tack it up near the laundry area. Or get really creative and take snapshots of your most delicate items with humorous words of warning about the effects of shrinkage. Your helpers are sure to get the message. Better yet, keep those collectible, wearable works of art in a different spot and do them when you're up to the task.
Meanwhile, your family members will be able to take care of their own grimy sports gear and their everyday clothes too.

Finding the right laundry detergent that performs the way you want is possible. It might take a couple of shots, but it's not as hard as that. Be picky, read the label carefully, test it on your older items, and watch for the reaction.
