The increasing popularity of action figures brings some great new products. Action figures have been very popular since the 1950's. With the very first G.I. Joe action figure created, the world of action figures snowballed into a universe of collectibles. A long while after G.I. Joe was introduced, a plethora of action figures were created from the hit film Star Wars. With the success of the film, action figures were played with by kids, but collected by adults. Adults saw the potential in collecting action figures.

The most common size is 7 inches, but other sizes available are 3", 3 3/4", 12", and 18". Most action figures are solid in weight and are made from vinyl or plastic. Practically, all figures come with accessories such as: weapons, interchangeable limbs, props, base stands, and much more. Action figures are packaged in various methods. The most common is plastic clear clamshell packaging.

There are plenty of manufacturers that make these fine fun interesting figures. Just to name a few would include: McFarlane Toys, NECA, Jakks Pacific, and Mezco Toyz. NECA licenses tons of movies, musicians, video games, and much more. McFarlane Toys also licenses many films, as well as television shows, and musicians alike. Part of McFarlane Toys strength is in their sports picks series. These include figures from many pro sports including NFL, NBA, NFL, and NHL. There are many themes that behold the action figure universe. Themes such as The Dark Knight, Scarface, Terminator, Alien, Predator, and Planet of the Apes. While movie action figures are popular, licensed action figures from hit television shows are extremely popular as well. 24, Lost, The Simpson
