Accessorizing with Fabrics

If you like detail, craft, and design then dollhouse design is a great opportunity to grow your talents. It is absolutely wonderful to be able to craft and design even the minute details of a doll's house. A great example is using linens to coordinate your dollhouse design, and make things pop. If you are looking for an example, or maybe a good starting point then I would recommend the bedroom. Everything from curtains and pillows, to mattresses and blankets can be created and made to fit. In addition to the bedroom just think of the dinning room rug, curtains, and even napkins! From there we move to the bathroom where you can create your own shower curtains, toilet seat covers, and more. There is just an unending amount of personal style that you can put into your dollhouse.

Furniture Placement Can Give You a New Look

Because a doll's furniture is very light you can easily found the perfect arrangement in a matter of seconds. A placement strategy is simply a way of trying things differently to give you the arrangement you want. As there are so many different ways to layout furniture let us talk about arranging by symmetrical shapes. In first simple strategy, the triangle, imagine a large triangle in the middle of the room and then take the three primary pieces of furniture and place them at the corners of that triangle. The square design is used with either three or four types of big pieces of furniture, with four pieces the furniture is places in the corner of an imaginary square. The five pieces square is the same but one piece, usually the most prominent is placed in the middle. The square and triangle layouts are the most common, but do try many other shapes like an ellipsis, octagon, or even a bell curve.

How Many? The reality of that question applied to Miniatures

One of the miniature furniture decisions that you will have to make is answering this question: How many pieces of dollhouse furniture should I put in my room? The answer depends on the theme or message that you are trying to send, and also on the size of the room. First, it is not only messy but wasteful when you buy more than you need. But secondly if you cram the room with furniture you are missing out on some simple space designing techniques. In the end space needs a balance too, what is there with what is not there. If you notice a space balanced room your eye is more relaxed as it doesn't have to weed out the mess. But don't think that all space is better, because an empty room is just as bad as a cluttered or crammed one. In the end there is no true answer because there are some many variants.

Choosing the Right Style Can Help Your Design

Creating style can be more intense than what you have previously thought, what era will your dollhouse resemble? Most of us want the furniture, paint, wallpaper, etc, to match and flow together from one room to another. This is creating a styling theme. Victorian, Modern, and Traditional, though they are not the only choices, are the major players with dollhouse manufacturers - let's look at each one. Victorian is the first major theme, it is recognized by the embellishments in furniture through long curved lines, elaborate fabric, and old fashioned pieces. If you want to stand out or go with a more up to date style, Modern design will give you simplicity, technology, and some great straight lined pieces. The last is the traditional or classical style which will give you a standard look - Nothing to fancy or distinct of any era, but useful in filling your dollhouse.
