Dollhouse and the Appropriate Mood

Designers might know about lighting, and colors, but only the great ones design for mood. The mood of the room is chosen by the expectations of those that do, or plan to use it. One example of a mood is the dining room should be a place of meeting, where people can relax and talk to one another. Another example would be a bedroom, which is more personal, intimate, and is directly affected by the personality of the resident. Just as houses are dictated by mood, a great dollhouse should as well. To tap into your mood settings, think about the purpose of the room, why it is their, and what designs, colors, furniture, would better suit that mood. As you increase your miniaturist talent with your own dollhouses people will notice the particular moods, and even though they can't quite put there finger on it, they will be impressed.

Using Size to your Benefit for Design

Always, always remember that there are different sizing elements in miniatures. Here are the sizing elements, there are three: Miniature scales, size of room dimensions, and comparative size. Miniature scaling refers to the fact that dolls and their furniture come in different sizing patterns. Meaning, you should check your dollhouse scale, if it is quarter inch you need quarter inch furniture. Size element is the second point, and this is as simple as making sure that your furniture will actually fit in the room. Make sure that you measure your furniture room and are aware of the dimensions of the furniture that you buy. The last point is relative size; this means that within a room you can coordinate the pieces. Smaller pieces will get less attention than other pieces, and the larger pieces should be the ones that you want everyone to look at.

Exterior Modeling: Getting the outside to look as good as the inside

When you have completed your dollhouse you will want people to admire the outside of your dollhouse just as much as they do the inside. The Paint of the dollhouse along with the look of the shingles is the first thing that you notice with your exterior. To have a quality paint job on your house apply at least three coats of recommended paint. Make sure that you draw lines prior to applying shingles to preserve a straight look, most instruction booklets will provide the required measurements. In addition to the paint and shingles a couple of accessories like a barbeque or bird house will add to the attractiveness. The exterior can even house subtle designs like a rock walkway, fountains, or flowers. Last but not least is the lighting of the exterior. Lights around the porch are the most common, if you have a gazebo place a light in the center so that the light will shine down through.

Basics of Dollhouse Wallpaper

Though you may want to paint some of your walls, we recommend that you try wallpaper as it is a great substitute to paint and leaves a great look. It really does save a lot of time to put wallpaper up especially if you have done it before. Begin your searching for the perfect wallpaper with a hobby or craft store, and try not to be too overwhelmed as there are thousands of choices out there. Because you are looking to cover a relatively small area, you should look at getting 1 or 2 square feet at a time. You can also print off your own wallpaper. If you have a computer and a semi decent printer simply make a style that you are comfortable and print out a couple sheets. If you are in to scrap booking you should have all the materials that you need. As you develop your mad wallpapering skills you will ad contrast, style, connectivitly and a perfect design to your dollhouse kit
