Hockey is a rough sport that requires a lot of equipment. The right hockey equipment will keep you protected so you can stay in the game. In order to take the ice each player needs: hockey skates, a helmet with a cage or a shield, a stick, gloves, shin pads, hockey pants, elbow pads, and shoulder pads. These are the bare essentials in order to play competitively. Many experienced players also recommend: hockey socks, garter belts or tape to hold up the socks, a protective cup, and a mouthguard.

There is no doubt that hockey is one of the most physically brutal sports there is. The combination of skating, sticks and a puck flying at high speeds can bring a world of pain. Hockey is a sport known for physical defense and offense. The equipment you have will prepare you for the body shots you will get from opponents.

To be a great hockey player you must be a strong skater. Your skates are the most important part of your hockey equipment. Shop around and try out different types before you decide on your skates. Try on your size with thick hockey socks. They should fit snug but comfortably. Compare different brands while in the store. Ask friends and other skaters about the brands they prefer. Be picky about your skates. If you can't find what you want in stores. The best place to turn is online hockey equipment retailers. Many of these sites have salespeople to help you during regular business hours if you have any questions. Use their product knowledge to find the best skates for you.

Be smart and wear all the proper equipment when you play hockey. If professionals take the ice with head to toe gear, so should you. Hockey is an awesome game, stay on the ice by wearing the right equipment for you.
