Design Tricks: Apply a Great Wallpaper Pattern Yourself

Once you have painted the interior of an entire kit you will realize the value of covering the walls with wallpaper. One of the major benefits to wallpaper is that you can not only add color quickly, but also add some contrast with the texture and color design. As far as the where and what kind of wallpaper options are out there you should start with a hobby website or store. Because you are looking to cover a relatively small area, you should look at getting 1 or 2 square feet at a time. You can also print off your own wallpaper. If you have a computer and a semi decent printer simply make a style that you are comfortable and print out a couple sheets. Scrap booker's will have all the necessary materials for you as well, so if you know anyone or if you are a scrap booker yourself look at your collection of paper and I am sure that something will work. As you develop your mad wallpapering skills you will ad contrast, style, connectivitly and a perfect design to your dollhouse kit!

Matching Colors: A Science that is Well Developed to Help

Color will be the over ruling design medium for your dollhouse furniture and design choices. Now you don't have to be a professional artist to understand color, the basic level of matching colors begins with the color wheel. This wheel was designed to fit all colors into a solid circle to express similarities and differences. Opposite colors on the wheel are those with absolute contrast and stability. As a first step into the designing realm for yourself, I recommend that you defiantly read up on the color coordination material that is on the internet or any good book, as it will really help your style.

Choosing the Right Style Can Help Your Design

At that moment that you sat back and decided to create your first or next dollhouse you should have had an idea of what it would look like. Most of us want the furniture, paint, wallpaper, etc, to match and flow together from one room to another. This will be your style choice or theme for your house. When you get right down to it, you might have your choice set out for you as there are really only three major era styles in dollhouse furniture. If you are more of a romantic you will choose the Victorian theme, because it resembles a tasteful past, fluid curves, and astounding furniture pieces. The second is Modern, which brings in all of the technology from our day from TV's, stainless steel refrigerators, and off the wall furniture designs. The last is the traditional or classical style which will give you a standard look - Nothing to fancy or distinct of any era, but useful in filling your dollhouse.

Using Size to your Benefit for Design

There are three major sizing elements that you will need to deal with in interior layout with a dolls room. The first sizing element of miniatures is the scale, the second is the room dimensions, and third is sizing miniatures next to one another. Miniature scaling refers to the fact that dolls and their furniture come in different sizing patterns. Meaning, you should check your dollhouse scale, if it is quarter inch you need quarter inch furniture. The second size element, sizing up the room, means that you are not getting furniture that will not fit in the room. Make sure that you measure your furniture room and are aware of the dimensions of the furniture that you buy. The last point is relative size; this means that within a room you can coordinate the pieces. Smaller pieces will get less attention than other pieces, and the larger pieces should be the ones that you want everyone to look at.
