Dollhouse Flooring Options

Flooring is a very interesting topic because no one really thinks to change it, and yet those that do always turn out more amazing than before. Flooring can be a great design medium because it is the foundation for all of your furniture. Just as with new flooring in any house, new flooring in a dollhouse will increase the value and appeal. There are several types of flooring that you might want to consider: Carpet, linoleum, tile, stone, and/or hard wood. Carpet for dollhouses is very compact and comes in sheets similar to dollhouse wallpaper. The next set of flooring options that are popular are tile, and linoleum - a great touch for a smooth surface and an interesting color. The hardest type of flooring to add is a stone or hard wood option, but in the end these are the best from a designing standpoint.

Basics of Dollhouse Wallpaper

Once you have painted the interior of an entire kit you will realize the value of covering the walls with wallpaper. One of the major benefits to wallpaper is that you can not only add color quickly, but also add some contrast with the texture and color design. There are many websites online that will give you some great ideas and options with dollhouse wallpaper. There are many pre-cut easily stick wallpaper sheets with many varieties of styles. You can also print off your own wallpaper. Simply open a word document and create a pattern that will look great for your dollhouse and presto, homemade wallpaper A great tip is to go to a scrap booking store, they will have sheets cut to your needs with several design choices to fit your needs. As you develop your mad wallpapering skills you will ad contrast, style, connectivitly and a perfect design to your dollhouse kit

Floor Plan Design and Preparation

If you fail to plan you plan to fail. A plan ensures that you are getting exactly what you want, and helps you avoid wasting time. A basic floor plan and a budget should be the minimum of your list; these at least will get you started. A floor plan can be as simple as a sketch that was drawn by hand or a print of a room that you would like to copy. There is a plentiful supply of examples of good room designs both online and offline. Make sure that you are taking notes of great rooms that you see. Compare your notes to your current plan and change it if necessary. Once you have a good idea of what you would like you will need to budget accordingly. Remember, this is a hobby and constraining yourself to a budget allows control and happiness over your financial situation. If you find a piece of furniture that is over your budget apply your patience and save until you can purchase it.

Making your Miniature House Better: Floor Trim

Everyone likes to tweak there dollhouses from time to time. There are some great things that you can add to your house, and I just simply came across one that helped out a lot. I simply created a floor board to use for the trim around the floor of the dollhouse. You can buy many types of dollhouse trim through stores but what I found to be the cheapest and easiest is purchasing a long thin flat piece of balsa wood. Simply paint it the color of your dollhouse and attach it to the foot of your walls. What I found is that they covered up the tiny bumps between the walls and the flooring. It also prevented the wall paper to come unglued because I was covering the bottom edges with the trim. This discovery truly was a small one, but I believe that it really added to my dollhouse.
