There have been licensed movie video games pretty much as long as there have been the means to play video and computer games. While a few of them great, most of them have been unfortunately lacklustre in nigh on every way that made the movies they were based around great in the first place. At the moment, thankfully there is a great selection of movie video games available to get into- some of which could well be better than the films themselves!

First on our list there's the tie-in movie video game based on X-Men Origins: Wolverine. This awesome adventure game is thankfully hugely better than the film itself! Developed by Raven Software, the game boasts a rather different story-line to the blockbuster film, but it does have Hugh Jackman's voice and likeness. The game features all of Wolverine's powers, which are used in an interesting way- especially his healing ability.

As far as Marvel games go, the X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie video game is very violent, as you will see from the battlefield festooned with bloody body parts and other lovely things. Well, Wolverine sure has claws. Here you can make him use them to their optimum dangerous effect.

In addition, there is the brand new multi-platform game based on Terminator Salvation, the newest movie in the time travelling cyborg science fiction adventure series. Where the third film Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines and its movie video game counterpart were really bad, this looks to be going hand in hand with the exciting new direction of the new film and is fantastic to look at and play. Here's another example of how movie video games are improving a lot lately.

Now thanks to two-player co-operative gameplay, the Terminator series is catching up with other video games such as the huge hit Gears of War franchise, permitting for some serious split-screen adventure to be had. Merge this with the remarkably rendered distopian future world that the movie video game occurs in, which you can use to your full advantage when playing the video game, and you have one compelling prospect for the Sony Playstation and Xbox 360.

The highly anticipated Ghostbusters movie video game is something that is quite rightfully causing a big commotion. With news that a 3rd Ghostbusters film is finally to be made, 20 years after Ghostbusters 2 arrived, now is the superb time to remind yourself of the much loved Ghostbusters characters and scenes. Let's face it, the 1st film is a genuine classic in every sense of the notion, and at last there is a movie video game that does it the justice it deserves.

The story of the new Ghostbusters video game was created by Harold Ramis and Dan Ackroyd, the writers (and stars) of the first two Ghostbusters movies, so the new video game may even be canon to a certain extent. The classic original four Ghostbusters characters have been back as amazing digital versions of the stars, and the whole game looks excellent. All of your character's vital readings are displayed on your Proton pack, giving this movie video game a somewhat similar atmosphere to Dead Space. With all of the iconic creatures appearing in the game, fans will be enthralled when they snap it up for their DS, PS3, PC, Xbox 360 or Wii.

After such a rash of lacking movie video game tie-ins, it seems to be that the latest games that are coming onto the market are being developed with much more reverence for the original material and also what the fans demand out of a movie video game based on their most loved movies. These are a selection of the finest movie video games out at the moment, and hopefully they can help you discover a vibrant new level of enjoyment from your favourite films.
