Using Bird Feeders To Attract BirdsSubmitted by michaelrussell56 Sat, 10 Apr 2010
Using bird feeders to attract birds to a backyard or other environment near a home can be a great way for people who love the idea of such birds being around to make it become a fact. Stopping by every once in a while for a quick bite to eat, a great many different species of birds will make sure to consider the theater a kind of super feeding station, at least once in a while, it's hoped.
Many people, however, are unaware that there are different kinds of features that are intended to attract different types of birds. Putting up one kind or another can be a very easy way to start getting many different kinds of birds to begin calling a backyard a welcome place to be. In general, a very common type of feeder is one that's called a "seed feeder." Seed feeders usually come in a couple of different styles and with certain functional capabilities. People who like birds like them because they're good at attracting many different species while also preventing squirrels, who love to eat whatever they can, out of the seed storage area. Good squirrel-proof feeders are always recommended for use. Their are several quality versions of squirrel-proof feeders on the market, with one that's particularly high-tech. It's sensitive to weight and a squirrel certainly weighs more than a bird. Upon being triggered by the weight of the little mammal, the feeder begins shutting off access ports, thereby preventing the squirrel from getting any food. There are other kinds of bird feeders that are also squirrel-proof. Some mount on top of poles and come with baffles that prevent squirrels from getting to the seed meant for the birds. Outside of feeders intended for seed-eating birds, other people like feeders meant to attract hummingbirds. There are a number of different types of such feeders that can be bought these days, as well. These hummingbird-specific feeders usually contain a reservoir which can be filled with store-bought nectar or nectar made up from various common ingredients. Most hold at least a pint of the liquid and the feeder is excellent at attracting these beautiful little birds, who happily flit to and fro, drinking from the nectar station. The best part is that they're actually not very expensive, happily. Bird feeders today come in many different sizes, shapes, functions and with a number of different features and capabilities. Some are specifically made to be resistant to squirrels, while others are intended for use with hummingbirds or some other exotic species. There are even kits for making homemade versions, as well. Prices can range from extremely reasonable to very reasonable, by the way.
