Wedding Invitation Advice

Submitted by Celeste
Mon, 12 Nov 2007

There are a variety of things to look at when creating or designing invitations for your wedding. Questions of whether or not you should have them made, or make them yourself, what working you should use and the colour scheme, all come into play.

The first thing you should decide is who is coming and how large the wedding should be. If you are having over a hundred people, then perhaps it is wise to think about getting printers to create them for you, unless you have plenty of time to create them yourself.

Guests that are over the age of eighteen should ideally receive their own invitations and always create more invitations than on your list, get extra envelopes as well. You never know if you might need to add a few extra people to the list or if invitations will get lost/damaged.

Never leave it till the last minute to send the invitation. Remember your guests need to RSVP you, after you have sent them their invitations. When it comes to the wording itself, think of your wedding. Your invite should give your guests a preview feeling of what the wedding is going to be like, so if you are having a formal wedding then the font and wording you use should reflect that.

Make sure you have your guests' titles correct, if you are going to include them, not only Miss and Mrs, but Drs. as well. The colour scheme you use for the wedding should tie up with the invites as well.

Don’t forget when getting your invitations printed that after the wedding you are going to need to create thank you notes. It might work out to be cheaper to do them all at once than on two separate occasions.

If your wedding is themed, or you are using a specific flower for the whole event, an idea is to incorporate that into your invitation. Using stamps, printing, or playing with the different types of paper is a good place to start. Have a look at what’s available already and draw your inspiration from there. This is your day and your invitations should relfect that.
