If you have had an air conditioning system before, you will know they can be quite expensive to both install and to operate. But did you know there are many ways to naturally cool and heat your home? Read on for 4 tips about how to add warmth in winter to your home and how to keep your home cool in the summer months.

1) Use Appropriate Curtains & Blinds - Every home should have curtains and blinds on every window. Curtains and blinds are important for two main reasons. Firstly, they will prevent the heat from entering your home during summer. Secondly, they will minimize heat loss from a home during the colder winter months. Blinds are a cheap and efficient way to regulate the temperature of your house.

2) Solar Orientation - Having a solar orientated home will minimize the heating and cooling needs of your home throughout the year. A correctly built solar orientated home has two main benefits. Firstly, the home will be in the shade during the hotter summer months. Secondly, the sun will enter the living areas during winter helping the home to warm up. If you are designing or building a new home, speak with your builder about building a solar orientated design.

3) Insulation - Every home should have insulation. Insulation again prevents heat from escaping your home in summer and prevents heat from getting in during winter. Ceiling insulation is a must for every home. You can also insulate your walls, roof and more.

4) Use Fans - Ceiling fans are both cheap to run as well as to install. Ceiling fans are a great choice for homes and can really keep your home cool during the milder parts of summer.

These tips will help you to both feel comfortable in your home as well as to save a heap of money off your next power bill.
