A Better Way to Heat and Cool Your Home: Spray Foam Insulation

Submitted by JMA GROUP

Only part of your energy usage equation is from your heating and cooling system's equipment. The efficiency of the homes outer walls, floors, and roof are also important factors to consider. Your heating and cooling system provides conditioned air and your house use or wastes it in exact balance.

Roughly 15 cents is spent on energy to operate the heating and cooling to operate itself. The other remaining 85 cents is used on the house. So the best way to save money would be to control heat loss from you home. Keep in mind that it's not true that the more insulation you have, the more reduced the cost of heating or cooling your home. It is air leakage is the real problem with costly energy bills.

Outdoor air pressure is what can cause air leak in your home. The largest pressure differences are found in the highest and lowest places in the structure. Holes in these areas will leak more air then holes in the middle of the structure. Since warm air rises, it will leak out unsealed areas when it reaches the top of the building. Hot or cold air can be pulled in from outside with leaks that are found at the bottom of the structure.

If your home is sealed properly it will be more economical to operate and more comfortable to live in. Also, you will not experience any drafts. Without proper sealing you will experience moist heated air escapes to cooler areas like walls and ceilings when that happens the vapor condenses, which causes mold and mildew. It is also a major source of allergy symptoms in most homes.

While new homes insulated with Energy Spray foam could save you as much as up to 60% on heating and cooling in comparison to commonly used insulations your existing home can be upgraded to increase energy and comfort with the Spray foam. Your existing home can save up to 35% on heating and cooling by Spray foaming areas such as the attic and AC ducts.
