An introduction to Silestone CountertopSubmitted by forhealth Wed, 22 Apr 2009
Without countertops, kitchen will not look beautiful. You can use any type of material in your kitchen. There are various types of countertops like granite, marble and silestone. Silestone is manufactured in Spain and is widely used in European countries and USA. It is made up of 94% quartz and the other 6% comes from natural, disposable, maintenance free materials. These are mostly used in hospitals, aged care, hotel receptions, kitchens and bathrooms. These are so nice that it can be used in walls, floors, splash backs or work tops. It is a green guard certified product.
Silestone is scratch, heat and stain resistant making it maintenance free. It can withstand stains and scratches that are occurred during cooking. If you want your silestone to look beautiful for a longer period of time do not place hot containers on the silestone countertop. Place a stand in between the container and the silestone counter top and also use a chopping board for cutting. This product is produced under extreme heat and pressure making the end product similar to volcanic rock and diamonds. If you want a tough, durable surface for your home or business then silestone is the right choice. It is available in three thicknesses; 12 mm, 20 mm and 30 mm. These slabs are available in multiple colors, over 40, from the white of Blanco Zeus to Azul Electra. Being 100% acid resistant, you can use acid ingredients like cola, lemon and vinegar in the countertop. Being maintenance free, it does not require sealers or special cleaners. Just use a little soapy water to clean your countertop. Avoid using steel scourer to clean silestone countertops. You do not have to seal it before using it because silestone is non porous and needs no sealing. If you are particular about edge profiles for your counter tops you can use any profile as the manufacturing methods of all silestone counter tops are basically the same. Silestone Countertops have two finishes; polished slabs and leather slabs. You can choose any finish based on your needs. It would be good if you use polished slabs for walls or countertops. Polished slabs are not recommended for floors as it is very slippery when polished. Many accidents can occur if you use slippery offers at home; especially in the kitchen where there is a higher incidence of spillages. It would be great if you use spray and wipe or Windex for cleaning the silestone surface
