Are you a man or a bug!?

Submitted by stickystebee

Are you a man or a bug!?
In general we tend not to have a problem with most bugs; from ladybirds to dragonflies we usually see beauty in them. It’s only when these “bugs” start to invade our houses that the real problems start between man and bug.

bed bugs usually rank the highest of unwanted creatures in the household, and trying to eradicate them can be very embarrassing. Even if you’re not one to care what the neighbours think, a Rentokil van pulling up outside your house is sure those start tongues wagging!

The idea that bedbugs only live in the dirtiest of houses is untrue, these creatures are now appearing in the finest of houses and hotels, with an epidemic of bedbug cases finally upon us. Cases have increased by 500% with the majority being in major cities. These bugs are not confined to beds however, they can also live in our clothes and our suitcases and thus where we travel they travel!
Facts
*Bed bugs are not invisible
*Can grow up to 5mm in length
*Turn dark brown after feasting
*Bites can itch & even cause an allergic reaction
*Cleanliness of a household is irrelevant
Ideally if you believe your bed is infected the best solution is to throw away your bed, your duvet and your headrest. This option can be expensive and not all of us can afford to do this. The method suggested by Rentokil is obviously to hire them; the other option they suggest is to wash all of the affected linen on the highest temperature your washer supports. Also never store your suitcases under your bed, as previously mentioned bed bugs travel as well, and hotels remain the key place where you’re most likely to pick up these bugs. Vigilance remains the key to spotting these “night time feeders” in your mattress.
The History
In the 1930’s nearly 1/3 of all households were infested with bedbugs, but they were stamped out by strong pesticides and until recently had been forgotten about. That is until their recent comeback, which has caused huge problems for many countries around the world.

The Future
Designers recently came to London to show off their new products - designed mainly for our beds. The main highlight of the show came in the form of a duvet with a silver lining. In theory, these mattresses provide an unsuitable habitat so bedbugs cannot thrive.
