Composite and uPVC Doors

Submitted by searchrankpros7
Tue, 8 Dec 2009

At one time when you had new doors and windows fitted to your property they would either be made of wood or aluminium. These days it is a very different story. Most companies that supply them will tell you that over three quarters of their stock is now made of plastic. Some customers still insist on having wooden windows but, on the whole, they are now in a minority. There are a number of different reasons why so many people choose uPVC and composite doors for their homes.

Care and maintenance.

Everyone knows how nice wooden fixtures look but if you want them to continue to look nice then it will be necessary to invest time and money. The coating on wooden doors and windows is going to be victim to the weather and it is only a matter of time before they will need to be treated again. Even if you have the time and inclination to do it then you still have the expense and if you don't have time to do it yourself then you are going to have to pay someone else. The only maintenance that is required for uPVC doors is the occasional wipe over with a cloth and some soapy water.

Warping.

With uPVC doors you will not have to worry about them warping in the damp weather. This is something that cannot be said about wood... If you have a wooden door on your home then it is pretty much inevitable that it is going to be affected by the weather at some point. No matter how good a quality it is and how well treated, it is still made of wood. Wooden doors are renowned for twisting and warping because of the damp and English weather is the perfect formula for this.

Appearance.

There is a wonderful choice of uPVC and composite doors these days and it is possible to get something that looks just as nice as wood. A plastic door no longer has to mean a white door; you are able to choose from many different colours and there are plenty of beautiful leaded glass designs to consider as well.

Security.

Unless you are going to invest in a reinforced solid oak door for your property then plastic is going to offer you a higher level of security. The locking mechanisms are far sturdier and most suppliers will have

uPVC doors in their range with additional security features.

As you can see, there are a lot of positive reasons for choosing uPVC doors rather than wooden ones. They are easy to maintain, more secure and fit in far better with modern living.

If you want to buy new doors for your home then the best place to start looking is on the internet. You will find a marvellous choice in all kinds of different colours and designs. There are hundreds of suppliers out there and you can be sure that there is one very close to where you live.
