Condo Design Ideas

Submitted by neillisa

Owning a big house used to be everyone\'s dream, but these days, more and more people are opting for condo living. Condominiums offer a world of advantages that standalone houses can\'t: convenience, low maintenance, fewer taxes, and often a cheaper purchase price. But once you\'ve moved in, there\'s always the question of space design. No matter how stylish or spacious, space will always be limited in a condo-and as a result, so will your design options.

Fortunately, designers were quick to jump onto the trend and provide easy, no-frills solutions for condo owners who want to live in style. The first thing most of them recommend is open space: a kind of design where you bare as much space as possible, leaving the room with an open, airy feel that makes it look bigger. Besides the illusion of size, it also makes managing the space a lot easier-a big plus if you\'re a busy homeowner.

Next, you want to choose your flooring well. Some materials are obviously not meant for condos, such as heavy stone and marble. Generally, you\'ll want to stick to light, low-maintenance floors that can be installed over any surface. You can simply cover your floor with carpet tile, install linoleum or vinyl flooring, or go for something more solid such as ceramic tile. There are also modern materials such as glass, metal and leather, which all have their own pros and cons.

Lighting and color should also be among your top considerations. You want to keep the room as bright and well-lit as possible, as a dark space will make it look cramped and cold. Pastels and neutrals usually work best. If you want a bit more character, add color in the form of room fabrics: a bright red rug, soft blue curtains, or shiny pillow cases.

Maximize natural light by opening up windows, or at least keeping them visible. If your windows are small, consider adding reflective surfaces such as mirrors or glass dividers to help distribute the light that comes in. If you have a nice view from your window, all the better-frame it properly and it can serve as the room\'s focal point.

Condo living doesn\'t have to be bland and boring. With a few cool ideas, you can live in style and keep up your condo lifestyle at the same time. Get started with these simple tips. Find more information about condo lighting.
