If the deck is on the south side of the house, it is a good idea to have the deck partially covered, or to have some sort of shade tree near it to provide shade in the hottest times of the day. If the deck is on the north side of the home, the individuals should make sure that the climate is warm enough that they can enjoy the deck even though it will get very little sunlight each day.

The size of the deck is another planning must when doing deck construction. The size and shape that is being considered in the plans should be staked out in that area before doing the deck construction. In this way, the individuals can test the size and shape of the deck with the furniture that they have or will be buying so make sure that there is enough room for it to comfortably fit on the deck. If this is not done, it is very plausible that the deck will not be big enough after the deck construction is finished; a common mistake that many individuals make.
