Air conditioning units by their nature are noisy beasts. Whatever brand or style of air conditioner you have, it will be sure to emit some sort of noise. So how do you go about dealing with this noise? Read on to find some great advice on how to deal with the noise made by air conditioners.

Location - Firstly, you should take a long look at where to place your air conditioning outdoor unit. If possible, try to keep it away from bedrooms in your house or quiet areas such as studies and home offices. If you are a light sleeper, be even more careful where you place the air conditioning unit. If possible try to install the air conditioning outdoor unit near the Laundry, Bathrooms, Garage or some other non living area. Keep it away from alfrescos and entertaining areas if possible as air conditioning units are not a feature you want your friends to be staring at when you are entertaining.

Decibels - Make sure you know the dB rating of your air conditioning unit and how it compares to others on the market. Be sure to ask the salesman about the dB's and make sure they provide you with the correct literature. Obviously, try and find the quietest unit you can afford.

Council Requirements - Some councils don't allow certain types of air conditioners. Do your research before purchasing any air conditioning system. Look on websites or call for laws governing your local area.

Neighbours - Nothing causes more neighbourhood disputes than a noisy air conditioner. Before getting an air conditioner installed, speak to your neighbour to discuss the proposed location with them. Try to tell them that you are trying to put the unit in a spot that will cause the least disturbance for them. Have a look where the bedrooms in their house are located and try to avoid the unit's noise getting anywhere near these rooms. Having an open and polite discussion with your neighbour may save years of heartache and disputes down the track.

Moving - If you are not sure about all of these steps, consider the alternative. If at a later date you decide to relocate and move your air conditioner, you will be up for a few thousand dollars in fees. Don't make this mistake and make sure the air conditioning unit gets put in the correct spot the first time.

With these air conditioning tips and advice, you are sure to put your outdoor unit in a spot that suits both you and your neighbours.
