Cleaning the engine with the likes of a Fuller Brush or another product might seem like a futile chore that is often overlooked as something that doesn't necessarily help the life of a car in any way. However, if you think this way, then you would be wrong. The need to protect your engine with an engine degreaser is more important than you think. When the engine of the car is made, a heavy coating of high temperature wax is placed on it to protect it for several years, but if you keep your car longer than a typical lease would last, the coating wears off and the corrosion on the engine is inevitable. Instead of your shortening the life of your car without knowing it, it is better to be proactive in keeping your engine clean and working properly.

When you first apply any engine degreaser to your cars' engine it is important to remove the excess debris that has built up. The dirt and grease gets trapped in every little crevice from the engine to the hood and grille. The best way to remove this grit and grime is to use compressed air or a hand brush. A Fuller Brush will wipe away the dirt and allow you to get into the smallest areas possible to ready the engine for further cleaning.

From there you need to cover all the important aspects of your engine that you do not want to get wet such as the spark plugs, any electrical devices which can cause a short, the distributor and so forth. You can cover it with plastic bags or heavy painters tape. It doesn't need to be perfect, but it does need to stop the majority of the water from getting in. Then as you are getting ready to use the Fuller Brush and engine degreaser, you should start your engine and allow it to get a little warm, but not hot. Make sure you are able to touch it without burning yourself.

Now you are ready to apply the engine degreaser according to the Fuller Brush directions, making sure to start from the lower areas and work your way up to the top so you don't have it dripping on you as you work on the lower areas. Keep the degreaser away from any waxed areas and wash away any remaining cleaner from painted surfaces as well. A tip to follow is to wash them with water first so it literally drips off if it does get on those areas. After allowing the cleaner to soak for about five minutes you can hose the engine off, towel dry it and use the heat from the engine to dry it at the same time. Follow that up with an engine protector and your engine will be as good as new.
