Guest House Floor Plan | How to Create a Spare Room

Submitted by bec1967

Any way you look at it, a guest house means comfort in your new home. A guest house floor plan can be incorporated into your new house floor plan or added on at a later date in order to accommodate company or an aging relative that is no longer able to live completely independent.

A guest house floor plan can be as simple as a spare room over the garage or as elaborate as an extra 1600 sq. foot complete house set on the hill of a sprawling estate. However, most people tend to think of a guest house as a one or two room suite with a compact partial or complete kitchen and bathroom that is either attached to the house itself or connected by a short walkway.

A guest house is a great way to add value to your home while maintaining privacy for family and friends while they are visiting. A guest house floor plan could even be as minimal as a spare room in the home with a separate door for your company to come and go as they please without disturbing the rest of the household. The main idea is to get creative and inventive about pleasing your visitors as well as your family.

Another excellent use for a guest house floor plan is the almost independent young adult in the family. A guest house can, depending on the size, make an excellent first apartment or house for a college student. This can be a good way to maintain a young adult's independence and hold down the high cost of housing your college student at the same time. Having more than one child in the family can make this plan even more appealing and economical since the guest house can be used for each child as the need arises.

A guest house floor plan can be used in a variety of interesting and creative ways to solve privacy problems, create more space and maintain the independence of loved ones as they move through many phases of life. Thoughtful planning will always make the most of your space.
