Home Hvac: Providing Comfort

Submitted by Todd Submitoff

HVAC (pronounced either as "H-V-A-C" or "H-vak") is an acronym that stands for the directly related functions of "Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning"- the technology meant for indoor environmental comfort. HVAC (Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning) system design is a most important sub discipline of mechanical engineering, working using the principles of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and transfer of heat. Refrigeration is at times added to the field's abbreviation as HVAC&R or HVACR, or ventilating is dropped like in HACR (such as the designation of HACR-rated circuit breakers).

HVAC is mainly important in the design of intermediate to large industrial and office buildings such as skyscrapers and in maritime environments such as aquariums, where protected and healthy building conditions are synchronized with temperature and humidity, as well as "fresh air" from outdoors. Inside large datacenters, a humidity-free room with a steady, cool temperature is necessary for the trouble-free operation of hundreds or thousands of servers. It is easy to install an HVAC unit in our homes and small offices because it provides us good ventilation and comfort whenever and wherever we need it.

Installing a home heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system might not be a casual job for any person. Nevertheless, most of the procedure involved in its installation can be accomplished by means of the right know-how on a small number of basic guidelines. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to install a home HVAC unit with a two-zone system.

Before we start we have to choose a home heating and cooling system as this is one of the most important decisions a homeowner can make. Choosing a good unit will lead to complete indoor comfort year round and also add up health and energy efficiency to your family? Choosing the wrong system may lead to an uncomfortable home environment, which might have an adverse effect on your family's happiness. However, since the heating and cooling system is hidden, this important decision is often ignored.

Few Steps helping you to install a Home HVAC Unit

1. Choose a thermostat. The thermostat that you decide will depend on the HVAC system that you plan to install. Few complex HVAC units require a more sophisticated thermostat. However, a two-zone arrangement requires a simple thermostat with settings for heating and cooling.

2. Set the thermostat at a height of just about 5 inches to get an excellent flow of air. Do not position it under direct sunlight, on an exterior wall, behind a door, close to a vent, or next to electrical systems.

3. Choose the most idyllic zone in your house to install HVAC unit. An ideal location can be near the furnace to make the system extra effective and allow ease of installation.

4. Install the thermostat by finding the stud in the position you have chosen. Keep in mind the instructions mentioned in step 2. Also, position the thermostat where the cable will not run into obstacles in the inner wall. After choosing a proper location, now drill a hole in the wall. Use a thin wire pull to draw the wire to the HVAC unit.

5. Fix the damper controller to a wall close to the HVAC unit. Make sure to run cables to the HVAC unit and thermostat together in both zones.

6. Verify and recheck the proper installation of the unit.
