Home Office Furniture Buying GuideSubmitted by John Lewis Mon, 10 May 2010
Before you decide to buy the furniture items for your home office, ask yourself the following:
- How big is the room or work area? - How often would you work there? - How big is your computer screen and space required to set it up on a desk? - How much of paper work would be involved? - How much storage do you require? - Do you have a specific look in mind, for example, classic or modern? - Do you have any other requirements, for example, hiding away your laptop in a desk cabinet when not in use? Essential Office Furniture: Desks: The desk is one the most important piece of furniture for any office. The choice of desk should be dependent on the type of work you do. Whether your job involves a lot of paper work or you mostly work on a computer, your desk plays a crucial part in performing any task. Thus, the size and style of your desk should be decided based upon the number of items you intend to put on it. If you own a personal computer then it is important that you have enough space to put it on, whereas, if you use a laptop and would like to hide it in a cabinet when it's not in use; then you will have to buy a different type of desk. Moreover, if you need to place a telephone, printer, scanner or fax machine, then your desk should be big enough to hold everything conveniently without compromising on the aesthetics. Chairs: Your chair plays an extremely important part when it comes to good posture, safety and comfort. So before deciding on the type of chair to buy, make sure you know how much time you are going to be spending on the chair each day. Also, remember to check how comfortable the chair is to sit on and what kind of support it provides for your back in order to avoid back pain and stress. For constant use, an executive office chair is an ideal choice as it is cushioned therefore offering maximum comfort. These types of chairs also have a high back, which will means that they offer good posture and support for your back. But, for infrequent use a gas-lift swivel seat will offer enough support. If you plan to use your office chair occasionally then choose a padded folding chair. These chairs are both portable and compact, which means that you can fold them away when they are not in use. Filing Cabinets: File cabinets are useful to store items in order to keep the office organised and tidy. So make sure you buy a file cabinet that meets your specific requirements. If you need to see your papers and files then a shelving system would suit your best, however, if you like to conceal everything, then a drawer file cabinet would be better.
