The scary buzz word of the year is "the swine flu." It's talked about everywhere! The swine flu, technically known as the AH1N1 virus, is a potentially life threatening flu strain that has swept literally across the world. It has left many people severely ill and has even claimed the life of others. While many countries are doing what they can to help reduce the risk of a pandemic, each of us individually must be proactive in doing our part.

First, we must be aware of the symptoms. The problem here is that, because AH1N1, swine flu, is just another seasonal flu, it has symptoms that you may have experienced with any other flu. Cough, runny/stuffy nose, sore throat, head/body aches, chills, and fatigue. The symptoms that you might want to pay attention to that may make this flu more easily differentiated without a medical evaluation are fever, diarrhea and vomiting. The ABSENCE of a fever is more common with the swine flu, while the presence of diarrhea and vomiting is a bit more prevalent in swine flu than with an ordinary seasonal flu that you may have experienced in the past.

The best things to do is to minimize your exposure and risk by taking precautionary measures.

• Wash your hands for twenty seconds at a time with warm soapy water frequently, especially after handling money, shaking hands, and touching public door openers.
• Avoid touching public hand railings, door openers, etc.
• Air out your home and work space with fresh air on a daily basis, if possible.
• Take supplemental immunity enhancers and vitamin C.
• Keep a high quality air purifier operating in every space where you spend a great deal of time.

The use of an air purifier is probably your very best defense against contracting the swine flu and any other bacterial or viral illness that might be circulating around your home or workspace. An air purifier acts to literally clean the air of harmful particles and impurities. The urgency of this appliance might be more easily realized when you confront the fact that the typical modern home has more than FIVE TIMES the pollution found outdoors. The reason that the colder seasons are the "cold seasons" is because the lack of fresh air circulating keeps the viruses trapped inside. Because people typically stay indoors as much as possible during the cold season, they also increase their exposure to all of those illness-producing germs.

The additional benefits of an air purifier is that they not only clean the air of germs that cause viral infections such as the swine flu, they also clear the air of allergens, such as pollen, mold spores, tobacco smoke, animal dander, and many chemical particulates. This leaves your air space, not only more breathable, but fresher smelling and pure as well.

There are many options of air purifiers because one purifier will not satisfy all needs, so make sure you do your due diligence, taking into consideration your family and use factors, when choosing the purifier that is perfect for you!
