How To Give Your House A FaceliftSubmitted by veronicajewell Tue, 31 Mar 2009
It is everyone’s wish to give their home that sought after “curb appeal” so consider having a start with your front entrance. It is important to take care of the entrance when making that first impression because it is the face of your home.
You don’t need to drain your bank account to give your home that fresh new look, there are easy improvements too that will help you have that great look and feel in your home. Start by repairing the walkway; patch cracks and have any loose bricks and pavers replaced. If you can, purchase a power washer to do the cleaning of embedded stains in concrete, stones and asphalt. If you don’t have the money organize or save up to rent one. Illuminate the path:- Lighting is important in the home because you will be sure of the safety of your visitors when they come visiting at night and also keeps thieves away. Clean the light fixtures and replace the burnt out bulbs with the energy saving CFL bulbs, remove the outdated fixtures and instead replace them with the landscape light to brighten the walkways. Use shrubbery and foliage:- Strategically placed plants conceal any unattractive aspect of your surrounding. Consider putting large pots or hanging baskets around the stroop. Hedges around your house are said to hide air conditioning units, while flower beds and window boxes will make it have a stylish look. Prune any dead branches, trim the over grown shrubs and remove all obstructive plants. Maintain a weed free well kept look for your flowers. Restore the luster of your door, replace it if weak or unattractive and have it decorated by polishing the hinges and knobs. Choose a color that stands out yet compliments the trim and sidings. Put a pretty wreath hanging to finish the look. Replace all old or broken glass to have a neat look Trim and shutter in neutral colour. Use window treatments to keep the glass crystal clear. Make sure everything matches from the lawn and garden ornaments, decorative handle, door knocker and house number or mail box. Replace the cushions and or have a new fresh coat of paint on the furniture. If you have an empty spot on your porch have it filled with a quaint bench. Sweep the side walk remove all cobwebs, repaint posts and supports and tighten loose railings. You will always find something to do within your budget, take for example landscaping. It is almost always going to impress anyone who sees your home for the first time. Maintaining your surrounding is a low cost way but makes a great improvement and you can even go a step further that is if you have money to hire a landscaper to plan and create a lawn renovation. Put out a clean new welcome mat in your door and make sure the door bell works because now you are sure of attracting many visitors to your home than usual. Your front entrance should be beautiful, well maintained and most of all welcoming.
