Being a professional residential painter means that I can perform my job anywhere in the world. For many years I have had a lucrative business in our home state of California. So when my husband announced that he had be transferred to Brooklyn, New York I was pleased. I had always wanted to move to New York and now I was getting the chance.
Once we moved to Brooklyn I had to start marketing myself for jobs. I quickly realized that there were many homes in the area that desperately needed painting. I quickly learned that being a painter in Brooklyn, New York was going to be hard work. While there was obviously plenty of work, there was also plenty of painters located there as well.
The first few weeks I did not get very many jobs. After talking to some of my neighbors, I decided to cut my prices in half. The next few weeks were very busy for me. All at once I was overwhelmed with jobs. At the end of my first month in business, I had scheduled fifty homes to paint. I quickly realized that if I seriously wanted to be a painter in Brooklyn, New York I was going to have to find some help fast.
I hired ten employees my second month in business. I soon realized we were still scheduling more jobs than we could handle. This was largely in part to my marketing strategy. I was advertising lower fees for homes that were desperately in need of painting.
I soon realized that other professional painters would end up charges extra fees if the home was in serious need of a paint job. By the end of my first six months in business the word had spread. There was a painter in Brooklyn, New York who was painting homes for much cheaper than the other painters.
We opened another office, outside of Brooklyn, on the company's one year anniversary. I have continued to offer lower prices than other painters, and have built up a strong customer base. My business here is much more lucrative then in California. Some days I think I am the busiest painter in the world, let alone just Brooklyn. The jobs just keep coming in.
