How To Take Good Care Of Your Modern Furniture

Submitted by edongzkisiete

Modern furniture today is quite durable -- specifically made to withstand much abuse while maintaining its comfortable air. Despite its quality, however, we should not forget that these items are not immune to use; especially when they there are kids around who loves to play around or on it. If you want your modern furniture to last a long time, then you better pay attention in taking good care of them.

1. Don't Let Dust Accumulate

Dust is an enemy of every furnishing in the planet. We might not notice them outright on the floors but they do get pretty obvious when they settle down on your sofa, dining table, and the likes. Its best get them off before they start to make a mess of things.

Sofas are most prone to dust any other modern furniture in your home. They are practically housed in the most ventilated area in the home -- the living room. If a place is aired out then you can be sure that there's dust. Synthetic fibers are safe since they don't get smudged easily and can be brushed or wiped clean. Those made of natural fibers, like cotton, is another matter.

There are two ways to get them off without running the material. One is to use a vacuum cleaner since wiping them will only embed them deeper into the material -- eventually staining them that can take a lot of effort to undo. If you don't have such a tool hand then use a feather or fine duster to shake them off.

2. Refrain From Using Chemical Cleaning Agents

Cleaning solution is practically preferred by many homeowners today in giving their furniture a thorough cleaning, especially tables. Wood is quite sensitive to these chemicals and its quality might be compromised if you haphazardly use them.

Pick one that is formulated according to the material used with your modern furniture. Diluting them with a little bit of water will not ruin its effect; in fact, doing so decreases the possibility of running the material, its paint, or coating while you rub. Don't apply force; just wipe it clean with the least amount of effort to avoid compromising its coating.

3. Ask An Expert

It is a good idea to ask around if you have no experience with cleaning modern furniture. The sales agent in your local store where you purchased the item can give you plenty of details in maintaining its quality. You can also buy self-help books in furniture care or find the material online if you want to avoid spending.
