How to update Cabinets, when your Bank Account says NO!

Submitted by Dianeyp

Are you wanting a new look for your old cabinets, but your bank account is in need of a new look as well?

Are you tired of staring at dreary cabinets?.. Do they suck the life blood out of your home decor? Then it is time to do something with them, so that you can smile when you get up in the morning and head to your kitchen.

Caution: You may actually like spending time in the kitchen, and possibly cook in there.. how is that for a novel concept.

There is nothing worse, than a dark dreary kitchen. It is hard to get creative with meals and cooking, if all you want to do is run out the door.

Why not try altering them. It actually doesn't take much. A coat of paint, or some new hardware. But one of the biggest changes you can make to a cabinet, is to reface it with some glass.

This works really well on those plain looking, flat surfaced cabinets. Take the cabinet door fronts off and their hardware, so you can lay it down flat, and then measure a opening for your cabinet door. It is best to leave at least a couple of inches around the edge to retain strength.

Drill 4 pilot holes in the 4 corners, and then using a jig saw, cut out your opening. Then put decorative moldings on the front, to hold your glass in, and 1/4 round on the back.

Repaint your cabinets, and the change is stunning! There is a free video, that you can watch, that will teach you how to do this, you can get the link below..

It is not hard, and you will give new life to your kitchen cabinets without buying new ones, and getting glass cut is very inexpensive, (unless you go for tempered or etched).

Also try changing the hardware, new handles, or knobs, or hinges can make all the difference in the world. You can update your kitchen, while waiting to update your bank account!
