Making Cheaper Home ChoicesSubmitted by neillisa Fri, 3 Jul 2009
Redesigning your home is no small task, and these days, budget is a particularly tricky issue. You don\'t want to overspend on home design, but you don\'t want to give up quality either. Well, the good news is that it doesn\'t have to be one or the other. More and more companies are coming up with home alternatives that do the same job for less. If you know where to look, you can slash your design budget by half without sacrificing style or quality.
For starters, try doing just one big change instead of several small adjustments. You can try repainting your walls-it\'s just one step, but the difference is noticeable and will really change the look of your home. Don\'t be afraid to use a bold color-the starker it is, the better it reflects around the room. If you\'re really on a tight budget, you can even paint just two opposite walls for an interesting effect. Want to jazz up your flooring? You can look into wood flooring alternatives. Wood has a way of brightening up any space, but it doesn\'t come cheap. "Fake" woods such as laminate and bamboo give you the exact same look at a fraction of the price, and often with a lower environmental impact. You can even choose the grain, shade, and treatment of the wood to match your tastes and lifestyle. Home accessories such as wall art, paintings, and figurines can add up over the years. When you need to accessorize, start by looking into your stash and reusing some of your older materials. That way, you don\'t have to buy new stuff every time-you can just rotate your collection so that each piece gets used equally, avoiding clutter at the same time. Sometimes you don\'t even have to spend a penny to change the look of your home. Before buying anything, look around the room and see if you can rearrange it to suit your tastes. Move the furniture around, place the focus on your window, or change up the lighting for a more dramatic mood. Experiment with different designs until you find one that works for you.
