Managing Traffic In Your Home By Arranging Furniture

Submitted by chadisenberg

It is not enough that one use good quality or appealing furniture pieces at home to make it welcoming. Whether it is casual or a formal themed home, the furniture pieces should be placed in such a way that they are not in anyone's way. Surely, no one would appreciate a cluttered home even if said "clutter" are high-quality furniture pieces.

Even if one can afford many an expensive furniture piece, but fails to arrange them well, the resulting home decoration will not be good. This is especially true with homes lacking in space. If one has limited space available at home, it is important that every square foot should be used to optimize the interior space. Apart from that, arranging furniture pieces well whether they are contemporary furniture or traditional could make it easier for people to get from one area of the house to another. This is called controlling the traffic flow inside the house.

For the living room, it is recommended that the traffic lane or the space between furniture pieces used by people to walk through should be at least three feet. This would give enough space for people to pass through the living room without bumping into any furniture or people. Also, another thing to consider in the living room is the amount of space between the coffee table and the chair or sofa. This should be given about 1 foot and 6 inches.

When it comes to the dining room, the proper arrangement of furniture whether they are discount furniture or not means people can get in and out of their seats comfortably. Also, when furniture pieces in the dining room are arranged properly, it would give enough space for someone serving those eating with plenty of space to negotiate around the table.

Similar to the distance between the sofa and chair to the coffee table in the living room is the space between the chair and the dining table. That is 1 foot and 6 inches. Also, make sure to add 2 feet and 6 inches to 3 feet as allowance for people to get into their seats. That means that chairs should not be backed to close to the wall as that would mean a harder time getting in and out of a chair.

In the bedroom, proper spacing between furniture pieces should also be observed. Since there would be times that you will get up in the middle of the night and has to navigate around the bedroom, you would not want to bump into any furniture. To take care of that, you should position your bed so that it is three feet away or more from your closet. It is not close enough to bump into the closet in the middle of the night yet not far enough to have easy access to anything you might be stowing away in your closet. This perfectly shows that there is a good reason why home furniture pieces should be properly arranged. After all, you do not have to follow the arrangement of furniture pieces at furniture stores.
