QMI stands for Qualified Mold Inspector, which means he has finished the first 8 hour course on Mold Inspection and understands how to identify mold problems, and can offer suggestions for a solution. CMI stands for Certified Mold Inspector. They do the investigation of Mold Problems and recommends whether you need Sanitization or Remediation services.
The Inspectors can find, detect, test and identify toxic mold and black mold spreading through your home or office area. They look for signs of toxic black mold, mildew, mold spores, damage, dry rot, and any other problems that mold and mildew can cause. CMI or QMI's are environmental experts trained and certified in environmental cleanliness.
Their basic job is to protect the occupants of the home or office building. As an inspector, they look at the property in question very carefully. They look for any evidence of mold and mildew. They also check the ductwork, vents and filters, to make sure the air quality is healthy. When they come across an area that has a problem, they try to determine the cause. It could be related to leaking plumbing, a leak in the roof, or seepage through the walls in a basement. It could also be the result of standing water after a flood. They check the basic structure and determine if the area needs to be repaired or if it just needs a good cleaning.
In some cases a good scrubbing with a bleach and water solution will solve the problem. However, in most cases that require and inspection, involves much more. At times, they will have to require the contractors to replace studs, drywall, paneling, carpeting and all.
When the contractors have to go through such a thorough project they usually close off the affected area with plastic barriers to keep the mold spores for contaminating the rest of the building.
