There are many questions to answer when you are considering a new mattress. One we can quickly dismiss or suggest that it shouldn't be a factor in your decision making is the colour of mattresses. You may think it is nice to have a cool or fancy design however you are only ever going to see this design when you change the bed sheets! Don't be taken in by attractive designs or cool colours, it isn't where your focus should be.

Mattress choices will be dependant on your budget however it is wise to look at value over price; the cheapest of the cheap mattresses can be pretty nasty offering little support. It would be a wise investment to spend a little more to ensure you get a great night sleep.

Mattress manufacturers offer quite an array of mattress types nowadays. The traditional open coil is the most widely used option then there is the continuous spring which is made from a single length of wire and you will find the coils smaller than the open coil giving the mattress a higher spring count and a more responsive feel.

You can also find foam mattresses which are made from several layers of different densities of foam. Varying the density of the layers provide different levels of comfort and support. Foam comes in three main types. Polyurethane is petroleum based foam which is widely used and very versatile. Latex comes from the sap of a rubber tree. It is very durable and provides benefits to allergy sufferers with its anti-microbial properties. The latex will shape immediately to your body giving you the support you need and a very comfortable sleeping position. The newest of the three is visco elastic which you will probably see it as memory foam in the shops. This foam will slowly mould to the body when it responds to body weight and temperature giving the body good support as well as helping to relieve aches and pains as the normal issues of pressure at points of the body are removed.

From Japan you could consider a futon. Normally made of layers of cotton, like the foam they will mould to the shape of the users body. In the UK you are likely to see them as budget sofa beds.
