Foam comes in three main types. Polyurethane is petroleum based foam which is widely used and very versatile. Latex comes from the sap of a rubber tree. It is very durable and provides benefits to allergy sufferers with its anti-microbial properties. The latex will shape immediately to your body giving you the support you need and a very comfortable sleeping position. The newest of the three is visco elastic which you will probably see it as memory foam in the shops. This foam will slowly mould to the body when it responds to body weight and temperature giving the body good support as well as helping to relieve aches and pains as the normal issues of pressure at points of the body are removed.

From Japan you could consider a futon. Normally made of layers of cotton, like the foam they will mould to the shape of the users body. In the UK you are likely to see them as budget sofa beds.
