To preserve that long lasting beauty of your bamboo flooring, you have to perform proper maintenance on it. Investing valuable time and effort to your newly installed bamboo flooring will all be worth it once you discover how effective your interventions are in the future. Ten years from now, when you still have that beautiful bamboo flooring, you will realize how important proper maintenance practice was for your bamboo floors.

The keys to bamboo flooring preservation are quite few and they comprise widely of the things you already know regarding floor protection. Nevertheless, they are guidelines that need to be reemphasized in order for you to be reminded of how to properly maintain your floor investment. These are some tips to follow in order to keep your bamboo flooring looking good as new.

• Regularly clean your bamboo floor. You can use a dust mop, a soft bristle broom or vacuum cleaner to sweep your bamboo flooring and free it of dust, dirt and grit. You can also use a mop with a floor cleaner applied. But make sure to use a specifically formulated, environmentally-friendly cleaner solution for bamboo and hardwood floors. When there are water spills or patches of dirt seen on your floor, remove them quickly. Use a piece of cloth to wipe out food stains and other greasy spills, in order to prevent further damage on the bamboo floors.

• Be careful in using any bamboo flooring cleaner products that requires to be mixed first. Follow the directions correctly to avoid any impartiality in the solution that may cause damage to the floor. Stubborn stains or scratches can be removed by rubbing it evenly with cloth soaked with the right bamboo floor cleaner.

• It is necessary to place mats or rugs with non-abrasive back linings before doorways and entrances. Mats and rugs can help prevent destructive dirt and mud from reaching the bamboo flooring of your house. It is also very helpful to place mat or rugs in high-traffic areas, in order to collect the dirt or dust from shoes. In addition, try and avoid wearing high heeled shoes or any pointed heel footwear inside the house, because they can cause scratches on your bamboo floor finishing.

• You can put floor protectors on all furniture legs so as to keep it clean of grit. When moving or cleaning, lift your home fixtures so that you can avoid unnecessary scratches and gouges on your bamboo floor.

• To minimize, if not avoid, cracks on your bamboo floor boards, maintain relative humidity in your home. Excessive humidity can cause swelling on your floor and can become the precursor for shrinking planks or the cracking of the bamboo strips.

In addition to preserving your bamboo flooring, these steps actually save you from costly repairs. Carefully follow them so that you can enjoy your beautiful bamboo floor a whole lot longer.

Bamboo is a grass. And when it's harvested, it grows back - just like your front lawn. But unlike your grass, bamboo is hard - 25% harder than red oak, and equally as strong. Bamboo is also blessed with colorful tones and distinctive grains. Such sustainability, strength and beauty are major reasons why bamboo has grown to become one of the most popular flooring choices in America.
